Many local bus services are running through the area, making it easy for residents to access the centre of Birmingham and the surrounding towns.

Schools within the area include King Edward VI College, St Mary's Catholic Primary School, King Edward VI Handsworth School, St Elizabeth's Primary School, South Birmingham College and Haybridge High & Sixth Form. There are also several shopping centres and small retail outlets, as well as three parks: Birmingham Quattro Park, Eastcote Millennium Green and Weoley Hill Local Nature Reserve.

The B29 postcode area is one of the most affluent districts in Birmingham, with house prices largely above average for the region. And although predominantly residential, the B29 has a number of places to eat and drink, including the independent Pizza Express in Selly Oak, the popular Handmade Burger Co. and The Clock Tower Pub. There is also a cinema complex, Strouds Lane Sports Centre and a bowling alley.
