Shirley is a semi-rural town with attractive residential suburbs and a vibrant town centre offering a range of retail, leisure and community facilities. It is home to a number of local schools, including Solihull School (an independent school, Beoley Hill Primary School, St Alphege Academy (a co-educational secondary school) and Monkspath Infant School. It is also home to several parks and playing fields, providing leisure activities for all ages.
Shirley is also known for its historic architecture. Shirley Parish Church and Gatehouse, built in the 1680s, is a Grade I listed building and the Shirley Windmill, built in 1760, is Grade II* listed. The area is also home to many other Grade II listed buildings, including the chapel of St James's Church and Shirley Place, a historic house.
In terms of living, B90 is an attractive option for families as property prices tend to be lower than those of neighbouring areas, plus there is plenty of green space and well-maintained roads. The area also has a low crime rate, which adds to its appeal.
