Dangerous trees in Ild Watford Road
22nd July
Dear team, I write to inform you of a potential serious issue associated with the state of the trees that overhang into Old Watford Road in Bricket Wood. I met with the staff who were assessing the overhanging trees a few months ago, They are aware of the possibility of the trees falling into the road and stated that the felling of the trees is considered as high priority, I informed them that a tree fell into the road about five years ago (You were advised prior to the fall that the tree was close to coming down, which caused damage to a house ) and took out the phone lines and that it was fortunate that nobody was injured. I did identify an individual tree that was likely to fall soon during our conversation. Well, a few weeks ago a large branch did fall off that tree and took out my phone line and others, I was without both a phone line and Internet for nearly ten days. On both occasions you were warned of a tree failure. I might add that nobody from your team advised me of the problems. Clearly this is a serious issue and you have a duty of care, a timely resolution is needed before someone is injured or major damage occurring to cars and buildings. I would point you to the farce that went on at Grenfell where somebody had to die before appropriate action was taken. I would grateful if you could give this matter your immediate attention and advise me regarding timescales and appropriate action. For information I did bring this matter to Hertfordshire highways many months ago but this morning they have informed me that it is your responsibility Yours sincerely Mrs Freida Rumbelow The trees to which you refer are not in the ownership of St Albans City and District Council and we do not manage trees on behalf of Hertfordshire Highways in this area. I would suggest you direct your concerns to Highways England. I have copied the contact link below for your assistance. https://report.nationalhighways.co.uk/ Kind regards David Dearsly Arboricultural Officer Community and Place Delivery St Albans District Council Tel: 01727 634482
