Road Closure Oswaldkirk to Ampleforth College, Hagg House, 18th March

Mon, 18 Mar 2024 09:14:22 +0000
54.20283 -1.076698

This road closure (on the bus and school traffic route) has been in place for over a week and no contractors have turned up to commence work. If the closure is in place it will have a huge displacement on other routes as the term ends at Ampleforth College and pupils are collected or taxied to York Station etc.

Ancient oak tree at threat of ongoing hedgerow cutting, 12th November

Sat, 12 Nov 2022 07:52:07 +0000
54.189959 -1.099715

There has been serious devastation to the hedgerows around Ampleforth footpath from the Millennium Green towards Gilling East, also down past the football field and towards Ampleforth beck. The very old oak tree is right next to where the hedgerow has been ripped up. I don't know what is happening around Ampleforth and even though people have mentioned the devastation to the homes of numerous bird species on the neighbourhood online page it is continuing apace. The massive trunk of the tree and the circumference of its bole show that the tree must be at least a few centuries old. Please take notice as it cannot be replaced once ripped down, it could be gone when I walk my dogs later today. Utter devastation is occurring to the trees and wildlife at Ampleforth and we need to have answers as to who is doing this and if permission has been given. Every day more hedges are disappearing, is it a farmer, do the local council know about it, what a terrible thing to happen to the birds and animals who lived in the now chopped up, matchstick strewn ground where they lived. Please save this old tree, it is healthy.

Numerous, car damaging potholes on the road outside Park House Cottages, 24th March

Fri, 24 Mar 2017 17:10:53 +0000
54.184396 -1.081182

The road outside Park House Cottages has been in a very bad state of repair for around two and a half years. Following contact with the council on numerous occasions, they are yet to take action. My car has subsequently undergone £92.00 worth of suspension repair following another run in with a pothole. They are impossible to avoid.

Dog poo, 29th August

Fri, 29 Aug 2014 18:26:56 +0100
54.1957822999975 -1.09161028298944

A public right of way exists through the grounds of Ampleforth College. There is a problem with dog owners walking along this (via Back Lane) and not picking up their dogs' excrement. I am one of many dog owners on site and we all pick up after our dogs. We would like to work with the College to eradicate this problem. I wondered if the Council could provide dog poo bins and empty them. Is this possible?
