Sunken Drain Cover Causing Risk to Structural Integrity of Homes and Occupiers Safety, 12th December

Mon, 12 Dec 2022 13:17:40 +0000
54.016769 -1.07801

Hi, for numerous years our house and neighbouring properties have been shaking/shuddering when busses drive over undulations in the highway (sunken drain covers, manhole covers and potholes etc.). These issues continue to cause significant risk to the structural integrity of our home and safety, particularly when busses drive directly over the sunken drain cover opposite our property (see photo). This regular occurrence literally causes the walls and floors in our property to shake/bang, with visible cracks forming in the walls and ceilings etc. This possibly isn’t helped by existing the road layout i.e. the island in the middle of the highway forces larger vehicles to drive very close to the curb and directly over the sunken drain cover. As an interim measure, please could you look into the possibility of raising the drain cover to make it flush/level with the road surface? It would also be appreciated if you could consider the possibility of altering the road layout e.g. narrowing or removing the island, lowering speeds in the area by extending the 20mph zone towards Wigginton, enforcing local bus companies to improve their suspension design/roadworthiness (no other heavy goods vehicles cause these issues). Kind regards, Kevin
