Street is too narrow for HGV lorries to pass through and is causing damage to pavement and facades of outside buildings., 14th November

Mon, 14 Nov 2022 16:02:35 +0000
55.777432 -2.345521

North Street is in a Conservation Area apparently because of it's Historical interest.. HGV lorries are regularly passing through often at high speed and causing friction damage to paving and housing facades. This often happens at night and during the early morning hours. It would be more appropriate for HGV vehicles to find a more suitable route and be limited to this route only. My understanding is that drivers have found North Street to be a convenient " short cut ", in recent times. However, I do not think an extra 5 minutes of time could ever justify a lifetime of irreparable damage caused to a vulnerable street which will literally crumble away over time if this behaviour continues.

The cobbles have broken away from the road entering the Ford from Langton mill side leaving a big holiness the right hand side., 5th March

This has been previously reported to sbc but nothing has been done and it is deteriorating daily. You have to keep to the left hand side if possible to avoid the hole but have the hazard of over correcting it and going of the road into a deep gully in the bank.that is if you know before hand that the hole is there! This road is used regularly by residents of Gavinton on the way to Duns.

Street lighting LED conversion in Manse Gardens incomplete, 30th August

Mon, 30 Aug 2021 22:46:53 +0100
55.7799 -2.344134

In March 2020 the street lighting in Manse Gardens, Duns was converted from SON to LED save for two lights, numbers 5 and 8. These two lights are mounted on wall brackets and were left, to be converted at a later date. Lockdown then hit which understandably put a halt to things. I raised the issue with Scottish Borders Council last autumn as light number 8 is immediately adjacent to my bedroom window and is spilling light into the room. SBC told that the work would be completed as soon as possible but, nearly 12 months on (and 18 months after the rest of the street was done) these two lights still remain unconverted.

The street lights in Manse Gardens have been dayburning for just over a week now. They are group-switched, so if the main feeder column (#6) stays on, the rest stay on as well. I suspect that the photocell in the feeder column may be faulty.

Street lighting LED conversion programme seems to have stopped, 14th October

Sat, 14 Oct 2017 01:09:31 +0100
55.779028 -2.344924

Earlier this year SBC began a programme of changing over the old sodium street lighting in Duns to new LED. This started in March. However, in late-June work stopped with a few streets (Murray Street/Crescent, The Crescent, Manse Gardens, Clouds, Gourlays Wynd) still to be done. There are also two recently-installed columns in Glebe Park still awaiting lanterns. Trying to get information from the Council as to when the LED street lighting conversions in Duns will be completed isn't much help, as they direct you to the relevant section of their website, which is hopelessly out of date and doesn't even mention Duns. Is it possible to provide a date as to when the work will be completed?

Dangerous potholes and ruts the length of Easter Street, 15th May

Sun, 15 May 2016 13:21:29 +0100
55.778843 -2.34187

The pothole images shown have been neglected for months. This has previously been reported and the Scottish Borders Council carried out some temporary repairs which comprised dumping some tarred chips into the hole, tamping down and leaving. Cheap and quick and totally ineffective. Due to the weight of traffic using this residential street as a short cut most of the temporary repairs have gone with a number of new potholes. In addition, road users have to contend with ruts in the middle of the road from Easter Street to Tannage Brae. As a motorcyclist and cyclist this now getting dangerous and somebody is going to get hurt or worse. The Scottish Borders council compared with other councils are neglecting their duty to repair the roads in the region and neglecting the council taxpayers safety on the roads.
