Speed Warning Sign Not Working, 19th April

Fri, 19 Apr 2024 09:03:44 +0100
52.871097 -2.464625

The illuminated speed warning signs at either end of Woodseaves on the A529 have now been adjusted to face incoming traffic, many thanks. The sign at the northern end appears to function correctly and alerts to almost all traffic. However, the sign at the southern end of Woodseaves doesn't. Either the matrix screen isn't working or the device is failing to detect arriving vehicles, irrespective of size or speed. Vehicles arriving are in a dip, are they below the detection field??

New 40mph illuminated sign, 12th April

Fri, 12 Apr 2024 20:44:19 +0100
52.8714 -2.464526

There have been 2 new illuminated speed signs installed and unbelievably they have been installed facing the wrong direction !!! Instead of facing traffic entering Woodseaves warning to slow down to 40mph the signs are telling traffic to slow down as they leave the village ??!!

40mph Matrix Sign facing traffic leaving the 40mph zone?, 12th April

Fri, 12 Apr 2024 12:16:09 +0100
52.871032 -2.464711

There have been recent, much welcome, upgrades to, or installation of, new illuminated speed warning signs along the A529 from Hinstock to Market Drayton. At Hinstock and Lockley Wood the signs illuminate to warn traffic entering lower speed zones, hopefully slowing traffic and reducing threat to residents. In Woodseaves the old matrix signs have been removed and replaced with new; they also previously alerted to speeding traffic entering the 40mph zone. I'm assuming the old Woodseaves signs were established and funded based on a safety case. To the southern end of Woodseaves those egressing Sydnall Lane, those turning right into Haywood Lane and residents of the adjacent roadside properties continue to face constant threat from speeding traffic entering from the national speed limit to the south. The new signs have been installed the opposite way around to previous and now, instead, alert traffic to the posted 40 mph limit on leaving the restricted zone to the north and south of Woodseaves, but not on entering, which appears to offer no tangible safety value. For instance, the matrix sign at the southern end of Woodseaves (A529) has the illuminated warning in the same eyeline as the approaching national speed limit sign and so will likely be ignored. Have the Woodseaves signs been installed at this angle deliberately or is this an error? If deliberately can someone provide the 'risk scoring' that shows why the initial siting covering motorist entry into the 40 zone has been rescinded, and that there remains no foreseeable risk to the inhabitants of Woodseaves. Much appreciated.

Regular Flooding, 11th April

Thu, 11 Apr 2024 11:35:38 +0100
52.866496 -2.473062

Part of the road near the pines, TF9 2BJ regularly floods. Water flows off the fields on the opposite side of the road. Farmer appears to have tried to fix this by digging a huge hole close to the verge (it is by a metal gate that is lying on the verge). There is a gap in the hedge at this point.

New illuminated traffic sign wrong way round!, 10th April

Wed, 10 Apr 2024 18:16:45 +0100
52.871234 -2.464431

A traffic calming speed sensitive sign displaying 'Slow Down' and illuminated '40' has just been erected on the A529 Woodseaves 100m south of the j/w Sydnall Lane. It is however facing the wrong way! Surely it should be for traffic travelling North who leave the derestricted stretch and enter the 40 zone rather than just before leaving the 40 zone for traffic heading south? All of the recent accidents and near misses occur at the j/w Sydnall Lane which is impossible to safely exit due to speeding traffic heading North. It does not make sense to have traffic speeding through the length of the 40 zone only to tell them to slow down as they leave it!!!

Deep standing water causing problems with braking approaching fast A41, 10th April

Wed, 10 Apr 2024 17:05:26 +0100
52.847272 -2.472971

This area has been affected by deep standing water for months. It has frozen in the winter, and causes disc brakes to be ineffective as you approach the A41. It is exceptionally dangerous, given the A41 is used by HGVs travelling at speed and the distance between the standing water and junction doesn't allow brakes to work sufficiently well to come to a stop at the junction lines. It's an accident blackspot at the best of times, but this adds to the risk significantly.

Flooded Road, 12th March

Tue, 12 Mar 2024 12:10:08 +0000
52.847344 -2.472883

There is a ditch which has not been dredged for a long period of time and has broken causing the road to flood. The flood has been constant since the new year. As the water varies in depth driving through on the left side of the road could lead to vehicle damage. Therefore, many motorists including myself drive through the centre and the shallowest point. Still nearly a foot deep. This does mean that you are heading into on coming traffic. After leaving work in daylight hours I drove the centre of the road as I have been doing where someone turned left onto the side road from the A41 and we nearly had a head on collision. This part of the A41 is a very fast section of road and a quick departure may lead to an incident hence the vehicles slightly faster speed. This would not be unsafe if the flooding was sorted as the road is wide enough. During the hard frosts a few weeks ago some water did drain away however the water had started to freeze over. Unsure how bad it got during the night. This was noticeable when driving over it. If someone was to skid onto the A41 this could cause serious injury or fatality. I would strongly urge someone to assess this.
