More Gravel than a Quarry!, 5th July
A flood takes place at one location in the road, this has been present for a number of years. After an extended period of time, Somerset Highways arranged for a contractor to jet, suction and CCTV inspect all drains in the road. Whilst on site, I spoke to the contractor who confirmed that the finding of these investigations was the main drain pipe that feeds all other drains in the road has collapsed meaning when it rains, the road surface water cannot flow into the Brook as it is meant to. This then results in a flood that covers the complete road causing a severe risk to the public safety - RESOLUTION ; THE COLLAPSED DRAIN PIPE TO BE REPAIRED TO REINSTATE THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WHICH WILL ELIMINATE THE FLOOD.
As a result of the flood being in place for such an extended period of time, there is severe edge loss to the side of the road - RESOLUTION ; ONCE THE COLLAPSED DRAIN PIPE IS REPAIRED TO REINSTATE THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WHICH WILL ELIMINATE THE FLOOD, THE EDGE LOSS REPAIRED AND A KERB LINE PLACED AT THE BASE OF THE BANK.
As a result of the flood being in place for such an extended period of time, there is erosion of the bank adjacent to the road outside the timber yard - RESOLUTION ; ONCE THE COLLAPSED DRAIN PIPE IS REPAIRED TO REINSTATE THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WHICH WILL ELIMINATE THE FLOOD, A KERB LINE PLACED AT THE BASE OF THE BANK.
As a result of the flood being in place for such an extended period of time, the road has sustained damage due to multiple `freeze thaw cycles` and traffic having no option but to drive through the flood thereby weakening its structure - RESOLUTION ; ONCE THE COLLAPSED DRAIN PIPE IS REPAIRED TO REINSTATE THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WHICH WILL ELIMINATE THE FLOOD, THE EDGE ROAD REPAIRED BY WAY OF PATCHING AND/OR RESURFACING.
The result of points 2 - 4 has led to an ever-increasing accumulation of loose stone, shale, gravel, rocks, broken road material being distributed over the road surface. (Please find attached multiple correspondence to the authorities appealing for them to clean up and remove this safety hazard, all attempts have been to no avail) The road has been filed under `uncategorised D road` - For reasons that can be read in the attached correspondence, based on the unprecedented levels of traffic and vehicle types this road serves, this is category is now not relevant or current. RESOLUTION ; ROAD SWEEPING BY PERSON OR MECHINCALLY TO REMOVE THE DEBRIS, WHICHEVER IS DEEMED APPROPIATE.
As a result of the now void hierarchy of the road, the road is scheduled to be mechanically swept twice per year. For reasons that can be read in the attached correspondence, based on the unprecedented levels of traffic and vehicle types this road serves, this is schedule is now not relevant or sufficient. RESOLUTION ; RE-CLASSIFICATION OF THE ROAD TO CORRECTLY REFLECT ITS TRAFFIC LEVELS AND TYPES OF TRAFFIC, IN TURN MEANING IT WILL RECEIVE A HIGHER FREQUENCY OF MECHINCAL ROAD SWEEPING
