Disgusting amounts of litter in verges and vegatation, 14th January

Sun, 14 Jan 2024 09:54:09 +0000
51.514578 -2.089692

Drove to Swindon from Chippenham on M4 eastbound yesterday and was frankly disgusted by the amount of litter on slipways and main carriage way verges. It’s been like this for years. The verges get cut with flail cutters which shreds the litter into a million pieces, which I’m sure is fantastic for the environment. Why doesn’t the litter get picked up first or at all? It’s like this all the ways to Swindon.

Poor temporary lights at M4 junction 17 roundabout, 14th April

Fri, 14 Apr 2023 11:05:19 +0100
51.514534 -2.122563

Due to poor signalling there is over a one mile tailback on the A429 from Malmesbury to the M4 junction 17 roundabout. The tailback is caused by traffic using the A429 trying to get to Chippenham and traffic on the road about blocking access because the lights are not remaining green for long enough.

Lengthy delays because of poorly managed roadworks, 6th February

Mon, 06 Feb 2023 15:05:53 +0000
51.516146 -2.120797

There is work being carried out on the motorway roundabout at junction 17 of the M4, The sequencing of the traffic lights are resulting in long delays on the approaches to the roundabout as there are cars being allowed on to the roundabout which clog up the single lane available meaning that in some directions traffic is un able to move. This work is due to last for 10 months so some soert of remedy is essential.

Unnecessary traffic cones causing delays and potential accident, 9th February

Wed, 09 Feb 2022 09:26:10 +0000
51.514308 -2.122541

Traffic cones have turned a turned a two lane system in to one. Although only a dozen or so cones for around 20m this is causing complete chaos and serves no purpose whatsoever. The road is not being worked on. This is causing delays of over an hour but more importantly is extremely dangerous. Because the cones are completely unnecessarily, some drivers are ignoring them and risk ploughing in to oncoming traffic. An accident waiting to happen!

Unnecessary Lane Closure, 8th February

Tue, 08 Feb 2022 09:00:00 +0000
51.514274 -2.122475

Thank for removing the unnecessary cone placement blocking one of the lanes on the northern and eastern side of junction 17 over the past month, however the cones have now been moved to the southern and western side, closing a lane, and due to the placement is potentially dangerous for cars coming from A429, B4122, and the western exits of the M4 due to a lack of warning and high speed the vehicles will travel at around that section. It is clear that someone has oversight of this debacle and is instructing someone as the cones have moved. The good news is that there is indication ongoing work is taking place below the junction with scaffolding, on the opposite side of the junction that is no longer closed and looking at the side now blocked, nothing. There are no obstruction, equipment, workmen, hazards, or any work taking place during the closure at peak times so the lane closure is unnecessary. This is causing delay of at least 45 minutes for commuters, increasing fuel consumption of vehicles (which is already a premium), and increasing emissions. This is not acceptable and something must be done, at least a response as I do not think we need to wait until the 10th or even the 16th February 2022 for a response to issues raised over a week ago when this could be resolved with a simple phone call to the project manager. Please can the cones be removed (at least during peak hours), or justification for the cones being in place. I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

Unnecessary lane closures, m4 j17 roundabout, 2nd February

Wed, 02 Feb 2022 21:46:34 +0000
51.51607 -2.121316

The roundabout has lanes permanently closed during rush hour while there is no work being done on the bridge works below. This is causing massive delays on the a350 approach roads. You should be clearing the cones for the peak periods, especially as no-one is working. You are causing thousands of hours of delays, tonnes of co2 with idling engines, huge frustration and safety issues if emergency services need to get to the m4. Please apply some intelligence to this junction's closures, or at least come down at 7.30am to see what your current plan is doing.

Delays caused by lane closure, 28th January

Fri, 28 Jan 2022 22:10:14 +0000
51.515563 -2.120782

The lane closures around J17 / A429 are causing astronomical delays in rush hour both in the morning and evening. The cones should be moved during these times to improve traffic flow as no work is taking place at this time - there are no workers in the area. It takes me an hour and a half to do a 25 minute journey as a result. There are no notices about the work and we have now been told the issue will continue until April. Simply unacceptable.
