Obstructive Parking, 28th November

Ongoing parking issues, 3rd October

Tue, 03 Oct 2023 14:04:09 +0100
53.377495 -1.944463

The photos are just an example of the ongoing parking issues faced by residents and delivery vehicles trying to get up and down Highgate Road. Drivers have to repeatedly drive up onto the curb (which is now becoming damaged). At times it’s clear that a fire engine would just not get through. We are a local business that need access in and out with our Airstream to get to weddings and events.

Safe off-road linking path required at A624 Chapel Road, 25th September

Sun, 25 Sep 2022 16:10:28 +0100
53.362563 -1.928436

Multiple bridleways and footpaths are severed at “Peep O-Day” on the A624 Chapel Road. This missing link across and alongside the incredibly fast, hostile and dangerous A road could be easily solved by laying a basic roadside path on the east side of the carriageway. There is ample space here and it is already informally used, but becomes overgrown at times and muddy at others. Where it links into the bridleway (towards the Pennine Bridleway national trail) at the northern end, it is narrowed slightly by the verge which could be easily dug out. A fence alongside the carriageway could be provided if necessary. This road has seen the fatality of a vulnerable road user trying to make this missing link and the council has failed to act - why?

Bridleway obstructed by large puddle/lake, 11th April

Mon, 11 Apr 2022 12:42:27 +0100
53.367615 -1.928984

A large lake of a puddle completely obstructs the path in wet weather rending it unusable, while at other times the churned up and muddy path condition makes it very difficult to use. It would not take much to at least add new surfacing material here to raise the path level in this dip and ensure any water collects at the sides rather than in the middle. (Of course, longer term drainage could be looked at entirely.) I would suggest this should be done as a matter of urgency given that this Bridleway is an essential link to avoid the A624 (linking Highgate Road to Maynestone Road) and the junction of Highgate Road where a cyclist fatality was sadly recently recorded.

Please could you provide some cycle parking stands for Hayfield? The central Market Street has numerous on-street parking bays but nowhere to lock a bike. Derbyshire County Council should be encouraging people to walk and cycle for local journeys and there is no opportunity to do this here.

"Traffic lights" warning sign reversed., 24th March

Sun, 24 Mar 2019 21:08:27 +0000
53.380736 -1.947963

Driving towards Glossop, at the point marked, there's a permanent traffic light warning sign on the west side of the road. Presumably, this is supposed to be facing in the opposite direction -- warning drivers approaching *from* Glossop of the pedestrian/horse crossing ahead. In its current orientation, it makes no sense -- heading towards Glossop there are NO traffic lights for five miles! This sign needs to be rotated 180 degrees, or removed.

Potholes around grids, 10th November

Ever since the road was resurfaced the grids are too low, and effectively potholes. It is impossible to avoid these on such a narrow road without veering onto the other side of the road. Soon they will cause an accident or damage somebodies car.

Road signs moved around, 27th October

Mon, 27 Oct 2014 09:16:48 +0000
53.3822321708593 -1.94843888891602

On the junction of the A624 and Glossop Road, there is a set of poles either side of the road, that have round signs. The ones seen going into the village are 30 mph speed limit signs, and the ones seen heading onto the main road are 'no entry' signs. The easternmost pole has had its signs turned around so that they are not facing the road, presumably by being hit by a passing high-sided vehicle. This issue has been present for a couple of months and the council has not come and corrected it, surely a ten-minute job.

Speeding and dangerous driving, 8th March

Thu, 08 Mar 2007 12:58:47 +0000
53.3738849132623 -1.94116219956164

We live directly adjacent to this main and very busy road (and I mean less than 8 yards). The current speed limit in front of our property does not take account of this fact turning from a 40 (through the village) into a 50 shortly before our house is reached. People routinely ignore this 50m/hr speed limit and accelerate up the hill without caution or consideration for any hazards associated with a domestic property (children, elderly people, walkers, cyclists, dogs, vehicles etc). In addition, our property is also situated on a blind bend - resulting in an extreme hazard everytime we enter or exit the property. We have to pull out directly into oncoming traffic, which is heavily accelerating and which can't see our driveway unless we're sticking the nose of the car virtually into the middle of the road. Also, there is no pathway leading down to the village, again making navigation of this road a life threatening hazard every single day. Indeed our next door neighbours are in their late 70s, and they are forced to walk down to the village on the side of this dangerous road, without the protection (albeit limited) of an appropriate speed limit or a footpath. We are asking for you to consider the following actions - 1. changing the speed limit on this section of the road to ensure that the properties shown on the map are safeguarded appropriately (i.e. to a 40 at least). 2 To install some form of highly visible 'concealed entrance' or other warning signposts to pre-warn drivers of the possible dangers. 3. Placement of a speed camera (temporary / permanent) that raises drivers' awareness of the speed they are driving along this section of the road. Thanks and we look forward to your speedy reply.
