The Avenue (from Queen Elizabeth/Avenue bridge past Bury Mead down towards the junction with the North Road) is currently in a very very poor state of repair., 22nd March
The Avenue (from Queen Elizabeth/Avenue bridge past Bury Mead down towards the junction with the North Road) is currently in a very very poor state of repair. I'm not sure if this is a walkway or a pathway. Walkways I understand are usually typically constructed with pavers, concrete, or large flagstone. Walkways are wider and sturdier than pathways which are often made up of gravel, mulch, grass, stepping stones, and brick. The section I'm referring to is no more than a pathway made up mainly of compacted mud and stones. In winter there are very large parts of the non-treated Avenue pathway that are regularly flooded and become very muddy. Since so many people use The Avenue everyday to walk and cycle - particularly school children to and from the two big adjacent schools - I imagine this might be another project well worthy of consideration for refurbishment. The first part leading off Rectory Lane up to the bridge by contrast is tarred and in comparatively good condition. Can you please advise if this important historical landmark is likely to be improved for usage in the near future?
