The verges have been eroding for over a year, making the road itself narrower and narrower, with unsafe verges either side. It has now eroded so much that, along with the pothole that is located in the same spot, the road has become impassable.

Large pothole in excess of 10 inches, 15th May
This and a smaller pothole on the edge of the road driving toward Stockbridge continues to increase in size. The centre of the road tends to flood pushing drivers towards the edge of the road. If it is also filled with water, it's is difficult to see and can also be problematic to cyclists.

Large long pothole in middle of road,2' long and 7"wide and 4" deep on average, 17th March
No photo as it was dark but big pot hole and it made a big noise in my 4 x 4 so what it will do to a smaller vehicle and its wheels in much more troubling- and it might well take a motorcyclist right off the road

Dangerous Pothole, 23rd November

Ongoing repairs not resolving large RAMP in road, 10th September
Ongoing repairs not resolving large RAMP in road. The warning signs mention uneven road surface but it is actually a small kerb that has been left. At 50mph there is a massive BANG when the suspension hits it. So I' have taken to slowing down, which impacts other road users!

Large quantity of fly tipped rubbish, 3rd February
There is a large quantity of fly tipped rubbish, just off the footpath in and around the woodland by the junction with the footpath from Crawley and the road between Crawley and the main Stockbridge Road.
The rubbish includes domestic and industrial items and is scattered over a wide, including in the field.

Excessive mud on road, 11th December
There has been an increasing amount of mud being deposited by traffic accessing the byway to the North West of the junction. The condition has existed for at least 4 weeks and is progressively worsening. Given this is on the junction and bend of a road with National Speed limit this could lead to a serious road accident.

Poor Condition of Road Surface -New Barn Lane (U172), 10th May
I have been regularly complaining to Hampshire County Council since August 2004 about the state of the road surface at New Barn Lane, Crawley, Winchester, (U172). On 25 August 2005 I was informed by letter that the road had been submitted for Special Maintenance Resurfacing. However this had never been done despite resurfacing carried out in the village. Occasionally the potholes are repaired but such repairs are only temporary and soon become ineffective. The road serves about 20 households,4 businesses and is used to provide access to the dairy by a large milk tanker and other related traffic.
