Long, deep potholes, 30th March

Sat, 30 Mar 2024 14:58:46 +0000
52.431469 -2.795755

The lane between B4368 and Onibury is full of long and deep potholes. This has mainly been caused by water erosion as water pours off the fields as there are no ditches field side. In addition to farm / commercial traffic travelling on this road. In places it is quite dangerous to drive on this road as there isn't sufficient tarmac to drive on between potholes either side of the road as per the attached photograph.

Extensive, deep potholes and very poor road surface., 2nd April

Tue, 02 Apr 2024 09:44:59 +0100
52.431752 -2.79557

This is an ongoing problem which is getting rapidly worse. It is almost impossible to drive along the lane without hitting a pothole, usually full of water, so drivers are unaware how deep they are. This is not a quiet country lane. On average we have 80 visitors per week arriving at HPB, Norton Farm. There are commercial, construction and agricultural vehicles frequently travelling along it. If there are diversions in place this lane is often used as a 'rat run' for the A49. There are no ditches alongside the fields bordering the lane so water has been flowing onto the road surface throughout the winter. This is really the cause of the problem. Many of our staff and guests have incurred damage to their cars as a result of this. We are frequently receiving written complaints about the poor road condition to our Site.

I have previously reported the very poor state of these lanes. At this location there are 2 large potholes/ruts opposite each other and getting bigger and deeper, as this is only a lane drivers can not avoid it and soon the lane will be impassable. I hope you will be able to sort this out soon. Thank you.

Road surface poor, 9th March

Sat, 09 Mar 2024 11:06:16 +0000
52.426402 -2.791341

The whole stretch between B4368 turn to Norton, Norton turn to Vernolds Common, Vernolds Common to Ayntree and Ayntree into race course needs serious attention. There are many potholes, the edge of the lane has broken down in many sections leaving deep ruts either side of the lane, large and high piles of gravel mainly from the broken down surface are in the middle of the lane. The whole journey is an obstacle course. My husband has spent £400 in new tyres in the past month with these stones sticking in his tyres. It is rare to find a good section of lane along this stretch. The whole section could do with a roadsweeper for a start and then properly assessing and then a sorting out the issues already mentioned. Thank you.

Water running off land owners field causing flooding in Onibury Village and damage to the carriageway from located point into the centre of Onibury Village, 2nd January

Tue, 02 Jan 2024 20:32:35 +0000
52.412127 -2.800874

Good Afternoon I am attaching some photos taken on 28 December 2023 – the situation is infinitely worse today with the inclement weather and the centre of Onibury village is now flooded and impassable from The Apple Tree to the A49 junction. The photos show a stream of water pouring off an arable field just on the left south of the Hollow Bank up Norton Land. This is an arable field which runs from the junction with Quarry House Onibury to just shy of the bottom of the Hollow Bank. The farmer/landowner appears to have diverted the water from the top of his arable field directly on to Norton Land. The result is the water then runs down the lane and into the village. The water has run continually since summer. The water is damaging the carriageway of the road that the debris off the field is also blocking the drains long the section from the Hollow Bank into Onibury Village centre. The attached photos show the water pouring off the field onto the road and then down into the village. The running water is causing problems for all householders in Norton Lane and of course the flooding in the village is causing damage and issues there. Please could the Highways Dept take some action as soon as possible to: Stop the farmer draining the water off his field; Unblocking and clearing all of the drains along this section both sides of the road and clearing the culvert/ ditch running alongside the road; Repair the carriageway so that it is no longer dangerous to travel. In addition, given the substantial flooding which has now occurred in the centre of the village again, please can you arrange for all drains from the Apple Tree to the A49 junction to be unblocked and jetted as soon as possible to clear all debris?
