Gullies blocked on BACK LANE, 28th February
Initially this came to National highways and our inspection team saw the issue was close to onibury on BACK LANE which is local authority and not NH
Following on from my email on Thursday, we have now raised 10 defects for the Gullies and Catchpits owned by NH to be cleaned and jetted in the Onibury area.
On our inspection we have noticed some blocked gullies/catchpits in Back Lane that are maintained by the L.A. can you please contact the L.A. which I believe is Kier Highways Shropshire and ask them to inspect and clean their drains.
We spoke with a member of public while on site and they informed us that it is Back lane that floods quite bad in heavy rain.

Verges churned up and lying water in front of cottage at Duxmore, 26th February
This is an ongoing issue with water laying in the road partly because vehicles have churned up verges and prohibit the flow of water into the stream. Some years ago an engineer visited and said the west side of the road would be widened to make a passing place and a kerbstone would be put on the east side of the road in front of the cottage to prevent the verge being flattened and the hedge being killed by splashing mud. This was not done and the problem has worsened.

Water running off land owners field causing flooding in Onibury Village and damage to the carriageway from located point into the centre of Onibury Village, 2nd January
Good Afternoon I am attaching some photos taken on 28 December 2023 – the situation is infinitely worse today with the inclement weather and the centre of Onibury village is now flooded and impassable from The Apple Tree to the A49 junction. The photos show a stream of water pouring off an arable field just on the left south of the Hollow Bank up Norton Land. This is an arable field which runs from the junction with Quarry House Onibury to just shy of the bottom of the Hollow Bank. The farmer/landowner appears to have diverted the water from the top of his arable field directly on to Norton Land. The result is the water then runs down the lane and into the village. The water has run continually since summer. The water is damaging the carriageway of the road that the debris off the field is also blocking the drains long the section from the Hollow Bank into Onibury Village centre. The attached photos show the water pouring off the field onto the road and then down into the village. The running water is causing problems for all householders in Norton Lane and of course the flooding in the village is causing damage and issues there. Please could the Highways Dept take some action as soon as possible to: Stop the farmer draining the water off his field; Unblocking and clearing all of the drains along this section both sides of the road and clearing the culvert/ ditch running alongside the road; Repair the carriageway so that it is no longer dangerous to travel. In addition, given the substantial flooding which has now occurred in the centre of the village again, please can you arrange for all drains from the Apple Tree to the A49 junction to be unblocked and jetted as soon as possible to clear all debris?
