Dumped freezer, 26th November

Have no idea why someone would put so much effort into dumping a large commercial ice cream freezer here - it’s about 100 yards up the bridle way on the RHS - steep but access ok with a vehicle. What three words to help find germinate.vandalism.encloses (Slightly ironic)

400mm circular hole, outside of house named Lynfield, on Calstock Road, 100m from Rising Sun Pub, heading towards Gunnislake, 21st October

I hit this hole on the road as I drove towards Calstock. The impact broken my front ball joint, that wheel was moved out of alignment and my car was immovable. My car needed to be pulled onto a truck and I had it taken to Gunnislake Garage for repair. This incident was witnessed by the driver in a 'Hunters' van and the barman at the Rising Sun was aware that this hole had been a problem for several weeks.

Japanese Knotgrass infestation, 22nd April

Sat, 22 Apr 2017 11:11:23 +0100
50.520795 -4.206872

This infestation of Japanese Knotweed has been growing on the bank between the level part of the King Georges Playing Field and the River Tamar for years. Arsenic Polluted waste was dumped there by St Germans RDC when they cleared Gunnislake Old mine Site prior to building houses on the remaining waste. (Not very edifying reading is it in the light of the levels of poisonous contamination in that ground that we know of today!) This is to say that the bank is a part of the field and a part of the responsibility of Calstock Parish council who are responsible through CCC. I have reported this problem several times before and here I am again having to report it because the issue has never been satisfactorily dealt with in the past. Haphazard random spraying at the wrong times of the year does not remove populations of this persistent and notifiable weed. Some of the pictures are from the adjacent brickworks site. equally rteported by me equally poorly treated as the widespread population of J. Knotweed is re-establishing itself. I insist on hearing from you, CCC or CPC as I am heartily sick of chasing up up over this and I will come to a meeting and make a loud song and dance about it, if you wish and push me to that point. On the other hand I am happy to meet you and show you where all this is. At any time you care to arrange.

Japanese knotweed, a scheduled pest species, 19th October

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 10:51:55 +0100
50.520811 -4.207064

Japanese knotweed, a scheduled pest species is spread throughout the bank at the bottom of King Georges Recreation Field. This bank has been sprayed by the Council in the past but in recent years my reports have been ignored. Once the area was confined to a patch to the left of the steps up from the river. Unfortunately neglect by the Authorities responsible has not only led to it's spreading throughout the bank but into the adjacent brickyard as well. The bank belongs to the Recreation Field. The bank was created when St Germans RDC dumped the, poisoned by arsenic, waste on the Recreation Field, and the field boundary is at the bottom of the bank, not the top.

Grass cuttings plant material and branches dumped, 19th October

Wed, 19 Oct 2016 10:39:41 +0100
50.519638 -4.20878

A few yards inside the road gate into the King Georges Recreation Field ( KGRG )in Bealswood Road, on the right hand side boundary various plant materials, grass, shrubs and Fig tree prunings have been dumped over the boundary fence into the Old Brickyard. I have raised this issue before. Only this time it looks as if the Parish Council, who have the responsibility of managing the recreation ground on behalf of the people of Gunnislake, themselves may be responsible. The Fig Tree branches appear to have been cut from branches overhanging the Recreation Field. It is my suspicion that the Parish Councils employees are responsible for this. Which is itself frustrating in that I have been campaigning to stop local residents tipping their garden waste in this location and the groundsman who drives the large white van knows this as I've had that conversation with him. As you also on this site should know as I have raised the issue here before. I now ask the question. Can I have the Parish Council prosecuted for this dumping? I think the cut ends of the Fig tree will match the cut ends of the prunings. Dumped with the Fig material is some long grass cuttings remarkably like the grass cuttings laying about all over the place in the KGRG at the moment. My local campaign to stop the dumping can be seen on the Facebook page Gunnislake Community Matters. I will be happy to see the removal of the material put over the hedge by or on behalf of the Council as it will point the local residents at what they should do with their accumulated waste. I.E. recycle it themselves or take it to a recycling center. The trouble with dumping or fly tipping is that it is seen by others and leads to the fly tipping of wholly undesirable materials, fridges, freezers, mattresses etc. which we are likely to see more of now that other Councils are charging for recycling these items. It also a personal affront to me and I take the issue very seriously!

Sewage leak, 22nd February

Mon, 22 Feb 2016 10:20:38 +0000
50.517928 -4.207897

Repeatedly when I walk on the public footpath past the back of a Bungalow known as 'Wier Run' I have smelled the stink of sewage. Over time this has got worse. The house has a cess pit in the garden but the smell is not associated with the cess pit. The smell is directly below the kitchen of the house, the house being raised up above the path. I suspect either that an extra toilet facility has been installed and plumbed into a rainwater drain system, or that the owner of the house Mr Mercer snr who is now into his 90's may be incontinent and daily washing of fabrics is taking place in the washing machine which is plumbed into the rainwater drainage system which goes direct to the 'canal' on the other side of the path, I am on,. from the house. It is from the 'canal' that the smell eminates. Or possibly a dishwasher has been installed in the kitchen now that the house is occupied by Mr Mercer and his son and his wife after their return from living in Canada, and this is drained into the canal. I do not seek to cause them problems but rather to get the issue of the smell and any inadvertant pollution of the Canal and subsequent ly the River Tamar issues, dealt with.

King George 5th field, Bealeswood Road, Gunnislake. Dangerous conditions underfoot at entrance., 5th February

Fri, 05 Feb 2016 10:28:15 +0000
50.518387 -4.207959

Due to increasing usage of this park and the continually wet conditions in recent months, the previously grass area inside the park pedestrian gate has dis-integrate into a quagmire. This has not been helped by the recent 'Gas' engineering works that have been carried on in the park this winter. According to the Supervisor of these works they offered to install a hard surface path as part of the works but the Local Authorities to their eternal shame did not respond ie. did not even discuss it with them! Now we have a quagmire. I myself, 72 years old fell over this morning because my foot slipped away from me as I made my way to the dog bin from the gate. I understand that a local quadaplegic tipped his wheelchair over on the slippery slope recently and had to be picked up by people who came along fortunately not too long later. I myself am shaken, filthy dirty ( I had to change clothes when I got home) and apart from a jolt to my lower back, I seem to be ok. Clearly a hard surface pedestrian path from the road gate to the 'playground gate' and from the road gate to the vehicle track which leads down the side of the park to both the old brickworks and the river is called required before somebody falls at dusk and is not found until dawn. What state they would be in by then is anybodies guess. But I think their love ones would be seeking somebody to blame and hold responsible for not responding to the danger highlighted here. Authorities should have done risk assessments themselves, which obviousley need keeping up to date and need to take the worst scenario into account. A sunny summer day will not show the hazards of a wet dusk in February for instance. A local gentleman certainly approaching 80 walks his dog at dusk and he is not too agile these days. Mr Collins of Bealswood Close. Action needed. There is a pile of granite hardcore which has been on the carpark at the bottom of the field for years which could be used for at least a base layer of these paths. At the moment it's being taken elsewhere by the Parish mainenance man.

Japaneses knotweed, 7th July

Mon, 07 Jul 2014 03:57:29 +0100
50.5214838553618 -4.20761806578451

King Georges Field, Gunnislake. At the bottom of this peice of land in the care of the Parish Council, there is an embankment leading down to the Towpath alongside the River Tamar. The embankment was created by St Germans RDC as the result of disposing of millions of tons of arsenic and other heavy metal polluted waste from the Old Gunnislake Mine site which they wanted to redevelop. The bank has been sprayed against japanese Knotweed ( JK ) in the past but is now becoming contaminated again since regular spraying seems to have stopped. It may be that as the bank has become overgrown with trees, it has been thought that there is no need to spray. However virtually the whole length of the bank is now harbouring the JK 'weed' as it has become a dominant undergrowth species in the area again. The JK in the adjacent privately owned Bealswood Brickworks site has been sprayed( I suspect at public expense ) but not this embankment. I find that difficult to understand, and would like an explanation. The JK on the embankment is clearly visible both from the 'car park' area at the bottom of the football field and from the River Tamar Towpath.

Pothole, 21st September

Fri, 21 Sep 2012 13:49:06 +0100
50.519427453829 -4.1670766024925

There is a deep hole right on the edge of the tarmac where uphill vehicles pull to the side to allow downhill vehicles to pass them. I saw a car drop down into it yesterday and the front bumper landed on the road surface, it was that deep. However the driver did manage to get out of it unassisted but sports cars with little ground clearance might sustain a lot of damage from it.
