Car travelling too fast around bend left main road and caused extensive damage after landing in our field, 20th November

Sun, 20 Nov 2022 17:40:11 +0000
50.347956 -4.512487

The road is a 'fast road'. Cars travel along it too fast along the straight and then can't take the (Menadue) bend. This is the most recent incident of many. My family, horses or dogs could've been in the field and would've been killed.

50.34472 -4.512716

Regular occurance. But there presently. Seaview Holiday Park advertising sandwhich board is on the public footpath causing an obstruction to the right of way and also its location obstructs the view for drivers pulling out onto the A387. It's current location is likely to cause a vehicle collision.

The surface of this road beyond Trelay Farm is deteriorating badly. Repairs have been minimal, not well executed leaving many parts where walking is becoming dangerous. Many section at the edges of the road are disappearing, The road needs some serious maintenance if it is not to become another lost Cornish route. There is a significant amount of daily traffic and many vehicles use the road as a shortcut to Duloe etc.

Verge needs cutting at dangerous junction, 18th June

Thu, 18 Jun 2020 10:08:19 +0100
50.341975 -4.512022

Verge needs cutting, dangerous junction of Carey Park and A387. The vegetation is so overgrown it means the junction is blind to car users pulling out of Carey Park on to the A road due to the view if the A road being the brow of the hill. It needs to be cut as a matter of urgency before a car accident takes place.

Contiouous flooding, 9th January

Thu, 09 Jan 2020 12:36:58 +0000
50.36082 -4.520567

Same problem at this junction despite the fact that it had fixed, which it had not. This whole section of road for a length of about 1 mile east of Pelynt suffers from excess surface water and flooding every time it rains (Cormac only check in dry weather). The drainage of surface water has been much worse since the recent resurfacing and is due to bad cambers and lack of drains. As explained previously the drain on the corner (marked) has been blocked for a long time and Cormac appear to believe that by cleaning the drains they are also clearing the soakaways. This is obviously incorrect and the soakaways (often pipes along this section of road) are blocked. Viewing the whol road from Taphouse to Looe it is clear that few of the drains (soakaways) are working correctly. Last night in thick fog the flood on the corner and the surface water was difficult to see, and today the road has been completely flooded and is dangerous. Time for Cormac to stand up for their responsibility and put road safety first and stop wasting our money on slipshod work. D Hearnden

Serious flooding on corner, 23rd September

Mon, 23 Sep 2019 15:53:22 +0100
50.361066 -4.520739

Despite all of the work and expense on the B3359 east of Pelynt, at the first wet weather we are yet again subjected to a number of areas which flood every time it does rain. I am sure that with the wonderful technology and expertise that you have available, it should not take a rocket scientist to work out that most of the drains on this section are completely blocked. Drain cleaning should involve much more than just sucking up water from the culverts and drain openings. It is more than obvious that probably all of the drains in this section have soakaways which are either completely blocked or which have collapsed or which have never existed. There is nowhere for water to drain to, consequently we get floods/dangerous pools each time it rains I have written before on this matter, to no avail. Please do something constructive to reduce these dangerous hazards before the winter weather sets in. I would hate to think that having been notified of the problems that any lack on your part to improve a dangerous situation may lead to a serious accident

Safety handrail made unserviceable, 3rd March

Sun, 03 Mar 2019 14:21:21 +0000
50.336938 -4.498707

The wire barricade that has been erected to stop access to the coast path at the Talland Bay end has been attached to the safety handrail making it unusable. This path is very steep and slippery and dangerous without using the rail- last week my wife slipped backwards while walking down the path and could have been seriously injured had she not been carrying a modest size back pack that broke her fall. Although said to be temporary it has been like this for more than a year .

Road is as bad if not worse than befor,a flooded ,mudbath ,perfect for the tourists wanting to keep their cars looking nice for the holidays, not to mention the problems it causes for pedestrians, and locals ,whoget a soaking from passing traffic, its vey hard to see just what the workmen have done when the problem lies underground, make everyone wonder if thay actualy did any repairs.cars have to stop tolet oncoming traffic pass unless thay have landrovers fit for mud and pot holes, slows everyones journeys creates extra air polution from car fumes stoping and starting something we can ill afford,if only you could get a prominant mp to come down on holiday here then maybe you would do something about the roads by spending some of the newly allocated repair money on the roads. after 4-5 years of flooding and mud no curbs only gullys its about time it was sorted once and for all.

Road surface missing in large patches allm the way from the start of looe hill and ending at the pelynt turn off,the road is also full of pot holes, and badly repaired ones that constantly break up, why the council carnt do a good job first time around and expects tax payers to foot the bill for never ending repairs is unbelivable,if your contractor carnt dom the job ,why are you paying them? then for highways to state that thay walk the road frequently inspecting it (as by law)how come thay miss all that needs repairing, and end up using the public to do their job for them.

Pot Holes and excessive mud and debris on road, 4th November

Mon, 04 Nov 2013 12:17:09 +0000
50.3578073515411 -4.50556110185245

In May & June 2013 I contacted the Highways Steward and then spoke to Colin Lewis from Tarmac. I reported that there was excessive mud and debris on the highway at the end of our drive. I wanted to alter the layout to prevent this mud collecting. I was informed that I could do nothing about this as the splay entrance does not belong to us and that it is council property. Reference number 131792287. I was quoted that the 1906 plans confirm that this area belongs to Cornwall Council. I requested that Cornwall Council address this matter. I also informed them that two people, one elderly 88 year old and myself had recently slipped in the mud and that it was in a dangerous condition. The situation has now worsened. There are pot holes appearing all the time (another has appeared outside the property known as Trelawne Glebe (or the vicarage). The one outside our property, in the splay, has not been repaired. The whole road from the B3359 up to Camping Caradon has lost its surface and is very well used. (Two large holiday sites, two residential parks, buses and delivery vehicles not to mention the private cars.) When I reported this first back in around 2009, I was informed that the road was due to be re-surfaced within the following 18 months. This has never happened. The road is never cleaned (I was informed it should be done on a 6-monthly basis) and when the only drain is cleared of leaves the debris is just left on the side to fall back in during the next rainstorm. The road is constantly covered with mud running down the road (Not from tractors or farm machinery) With the previous complaints from others noted from this website, plus my telephone calls, I think the Council are now very, very well aware of the problems and should re-surface the road and then keep it cleaned. It won’t be long before another elderly, or not so elderly, person slips over in the mud or trips in a pot hole!!
