Dangerous junction, 13th May
I had a proper scary incident yesterday on the A38 as you go from Tideford towards Saltash. I just want to make everyone aware of it - I’d hate to think that something might happen to someone not as lucky as me . I felt strongly enough about it to send it to the A38 safe group, I’ve included their reply . X Hi guys- I had a terrifying near miss yesterday that I feel I should bring to someones attention . I don’t know if you’re collating any evidence to make this road safer- but here’s what happened to me - I was driving from tideford towards saltash - just after the corner where the road splits into 2, I went into the outside lane to overtake a slow moving vehicle, as I accelerated a white van in front of me slowed right down and stopped in the outside Lane as he wanted to turn right into st Earny . Luckily I wasn’t going so fast that I couldn’t stop, however the van had to wait several minutes before he could turn right, which left me sat stationary behind him extremely vulnerable and exposed to other motorists not expecting to find me stationary like a sitting duck in the outside lane. I indicated and tried to get myself out of danger by getting into the inside lane , but cars were travelling too fast to be able to let me in. I fully expected to have a car crash into the rear of me, I even tried to relax back into the seat and brace myself for impact - it’s just pure luck that no cars came up behind me at that time. I don’t know if this is where any of the other accidents have happened- or if I’m telling the right people- I just felt that I should tell someone, Thanks Jo Hi Jo. Thanks for this feedback. We have had quite a few like it over the last year relating to this exact junction. We will pass this on to Highways England like we have with the others. It is a junction that is being looked at in the short term package of measures and reports like this really help as unless there is a serious accident there (which no one would want) Highways England don’t know there is a problem with it. Stay safe and I am so pleased and deeply thankful that is was nothing more than a near miss for you. James Millidge Safe38 Chair
