Blocked drainage channels from road, 11th March

Mon, 11 Mar 2024 10:02:46 +0000
52.500656 1.272458

NCC kindly put in extra drainage channels here as there was always a flood across the road on a blind bend in this dip in the road. These channels need more regular cleaning as soil from the fields blocks them when it rains and thus the road floods again. Residents have had a go at clearing but please add this to a regular maintenance schedule.

Multiple potholes, 4th March

Mon, 04 Mar 2024 16:44:45 +0000
52.501406 1.264225

There are many potholes on the B1527 between the Krons junction and the A140 particularly near the recycling centre. These were repaired (sort of) several weeks ago, but so poorly that they have opened up again and becoming very dangerous. Someone has painted white lines around them but these are now fading away. Why cannot the repair gangs actually do the job properly.

Reflective posts, 6th January

Sat, 06 Jan 2024 20:06:09 +0000
52.500766 1.28113

My address is 1, Gowing Way, Fritton Norwich, Norfolk, NR15 2LW. Outside the barns there is a grass verge which has reflective posts to stop cars going on the grass and hitting the dwellings. Over the past few months two of the posts have been crushed and they are also very ‘unreflective’ now. Could these possibly be replaced ? Thank you

Unable to walk on the path safely due to the path being covered in overgrowth and the trees overhanging, 30th August

Wed, 30 Aug 2023 16:28:21 +0100
52.514908 1.252568

The path near the bus stop is not safe to walk on as the path is overgrown with vegetation. Cars speed down the A140 and you have to walk very close to the edge. The hedgerow is over hanging the path and the road and you have to duck or walk in the road to round some of it. This has been progressively getting worse for several years. The path has never been cleared and the hedgerow has never been cut

Potholes on B1527, 29th December

There are many potholes on the B1527 between the A140 roundabout and the Krons crossroad at Hempnall. They are along the whole length but 8 or 9 have become quite large and could cause serious damage to vehicle wheels. It was only a few weeks ago that a gang repaired some of these. It's a pity that they were not all repaired at the same time.

Swan Lane A140 junction dangerous drain cover, 5th August

Thu, 05 Aug 2021 10:25:17 +0100
52.488118 1.234722

This problem has happened so manny times. The drain cover sinks and then rattles each and every time a vehicle moves over it. The noise vibrates all round the town and can be heard up on the Church field's estate. Every time a HGV goes over it the thump is so loud it is waking people up. Will you just please simply fix this problem once and for all.

Recurrent full-width flooding of road in heavy rain, 20th December

Fri, 20 Dec 2019 19:33:33 +0000
52.491455 1.282317

There is a ditch on the west of the C201 (The Street, Fritton) that carries all the water from Fritton Common; in heavy rain water flows from the ditch onto the road rather the ditch receiving water from the Common and the road and then carrying it away northwards. Nothing has been done to the ditch itself since 1995. I had extensive and helpful correspondence since 1994 with Matt Worden of the NCC Highways Department. He corresponded with the Diocese of Norwich (one of the landowners) and the tenant of the Diocesan farmland, and perhaps also with another tenant. No-one wanted to take responsibility for carrying out the work. In 1995 pressure was brought to bear (I think by NCC) on at least one tenant/landowner, and a contractor dug out the ditch for 300m to the north of the loke but nothing was done to the same ditch to the south of the loke. Perhaps the tenant refused; at all events the matter dropped. Nevertheless the work that was done made an improvement overall. The problem now is the same as it was then: heavy rain brings whole-width flooding of the carriageway for up to 100m each way from the church loke both to the north and to the south, and for partial flooding for a further 200m each way. The cause is the failure of one or more parties to maintain the ditch. Over the years the brambles, other vegetation, silt and debris have collected in the bottom of the ditch, which is now about two feet shallower than needed and than it was after the 1995 work. Also the small brick culvert under the church loke has been damaged by heavy vehicles over the years and is much narrow than it used to be; this further aggravates the backlog of water upstream to the south. Most years the NCC or its contractors have cleared the several gullies connecting the ditch to the carriageway but this work inadvertently makes the problem worse: unfortunately water now runs from the raised level of water in the ditch through the cleaned gullies ONTO the road rather than from the road into the ditch as intended. I have some of the correspondence from the time but not of course any correspondence between the NCC and the responsible parties, and can provide it if needed. Something needs to be done and I would be grateful for your input. I would of course be very happy to meet you on site if needed.
