Root Growth in Joints resulting in Fractures, vegetation growth, defects to road surface, 23rd April
I am writing on behalf of Network Rail regarding an overline bridge that falls under the jurisdiction of the West Northamptonshire Council. In our recent structural examination report, our examiner has recommended the removal of vegetation from piers and abutments to facilitate thorough examination. They have identified several critical issues, including root growth within joints leading to fracturing displacement and potential instability of brickwork. Additionally, there are instances of loose or missing bricks in the jack arches.
Furthermore, the examiner advises conducting examinations of hidden critical elements to assess the condition of metal girders concealed by brickwork. The condition of the exposed bottom flange suggests possible deterioration in other areas. Moreover, minor defects such as potholes and stress fracturing have been observed on the road surface.
Addressing these issues is crucial to ensure the safety of both the general public and the railway. We recommend prompt action to prevent any compromise to safety.

Loose and unsafe surface for wheelchair user, 18th April
I reported the problem with this part of New Croft, however you repaired either side and not the section in the middle, directly inline with the doctors surgery carpark entrance. Since then the road surface has deteriated further and again today I tipped forwards out of my electric wheelchair, due to my front wheels getting caught in the rill in the centre of the road. Luckily no traffic was coming at this time, however at wheelchair hight it can be difficult to see, so was lucky this time. I have to use this part of the road to cross, as there are no other dropped kerbs near this point. I would also like to add that the condition of this section of road surface is breaking up and has loose tarmac, and if a car had to break, it would be harder to stop. I feel that this whole section needs resurfacing, as there are also other potholes which have also been reported, making this section of road dangerous. Also if you only choose to carry out miner repairs, the problem will just reoccur due to the porous of the road and the way running rain water will eat away at it. If you do not understand the particular problems of wheelchair users, I am happy to meet up with someone.

Uneven and loose surface, 18th April
Due to the camber of the pavement, the slight drop into the bus stop and loose gravel. I find it very difficult to maneuver my electric wheelchair once off the bus. This is due to the surface not being level, accompanied by the loose gravel, which means my wheels can't get sufficient grip, spin and get caught where the two surfaces meet.

Collapsed / Subsided Manhole Cover, 16th April
Reporting this serious and dangerous road surface defect once again as I have just hit it this this morning travelling into Daventry as it was impossible to swerve to avoid it due to a vehicle turning into Weedon ahead of me.
The collapsed manhole cover has caused two cracks to my rear passenger alloy which will cost £100inc VAT have repaired.
I will now be submitting a claim against national highways for the cost of the repair for this damage as this defect has been reported to them for over a month with no action having been taken to repair the defect and make the road safe to use again.
I can see that this collapsed / subsided manhole cover which has led to very deep dangerous dip / drop in the road has been reported over a month ago with no inspection yet carried out.

Potholes oposite scout hut, 15th April
There several long very deep potholes on this section of road which, despite numerous attempts to repair previously, keep re-appearing. Cars are swerving to avoid the potholes. Please can you undertake a proper repair instead of just ramming tarmac into water filled holes this time. It will be more cost effective to the taxpayer and to your time if the job is done properly this time as this will be the 3rd time its been repaired.

Large Quantity of Building Rubble Dumped, 12th April
This is one of the largest incidents of Fly-tipping I have ever seen. The rubble, mostly in sacks and other containers, stretches along Brockhall Road from just north of the M1 motorway bridge right along the road towards Brockhall, finishing near to Flore Fields Spinney wood. I can only mark one location on the map, but the rubbish is spread over about 20 separate locations along the roadside. It appears to have been thrown out of the side door of a van whilst the vehicle was driven along the road.
