Overhanging trees, 21st April

Sun, 21 Apr 2024 19:05:02 +0100
52.388588 -0.955511

I reported on 17 Feb.a tree overhanging the road at Haselbech, and you have kindly agreed to investigate under ref.5864909. Just to the south east of this tree there are a number of trees (privately owned) which have recently (last week) been lopped to the extent that some branches, which were overhanging the tarmac part of the road were removed, leaving the verge area (between the tarmac and the wall) still with overhanging growth. For several years passing commercial vehicles (particularly those high sided or involved with farming) have brushed against these trees leaving a mess, and there is concern that this will still happen. It would be appreciated if you are able to clarify whether or not the verge is part of the Highway and whether the existing situatuin covers all requirements of the Local Authority and Highways Agency. Future growth over the tarmac would presumably still need to be cut back. IUt would be helpful to have a word with a member of your Team when you are in the area, if this is possible.

Over grown hedges, 29th March

Fri, 29 Mar 2024 11:08:39 +0000
52.397019 -0.986393

These hedges are overgrown by at least 2 foot into the pavement. Even the signs put up by the council for fixing a pot hole are obscured by the hedge. Children use this road to get back from the playground. All it takes is a car to go too close to the curb and someone will be hit with a wing mirror. It’s a major route. HGV’s, double decker buses use this route. Something needs to be done before there is an accident. The local parish council have no powers to enforce.

Hedge over grown onto path, not safe as busy main road, 27th March

Wed, 27 Mar 2024 15:37:54 +0000
52.397002 -0.986661

Section 154 of The Highways Act 1980 stipulates that where overhanging hedges, trees or shrubs endangers or obstructs the passage of vehicles or pedestrians or interfere with a street lamp, a competent authority may issue a notice to the hedge owner to remove the cause of the danger, obstruction or interference. This is a google maps image and you can see it's very overgrown into the foot path. The path is a danger and as the crossing is adjacent there is no way to safely walk down this road. there has been occasions when the bins are put out that you have to walk into the road which is a hazard. The hedge is least 1foot + into the path way.

This has been here for a couple of months but now rapidly deteriorating. It is 30 inches in length and at least 5 inches deep. Already known to have caused vehicular damage. Of further concern- This is a very popular cyclist route. The road in general is in poor condition but this is really bad.
