FIXMYSTREET IN NP15 1TT
The following problems have been reported on Fix My Street within 2 miles of NP15 1TT:
Red/blue flashing lights a danger, 25th January
Someone has placed red and blue flashing lights alongside the road at the White Hart pub. Travelling from Usk to Caerleon you only see the lights as you turn the bend and immediately think there’s been an accident with the emergency services in attendance. It’s worse in the wet when the lights glare in your windscreen. This is a hazard that should not have been granted planning consent.

Pothole repairs breaking up, 7th January
The road between Llangybi and Usk has been delaminating for some years following multiple “top dressing” repairs. In recent months, teams have been addressing the issues but have used practices that haven’t worked. New tarmac has been added to fill potholes but has not been consolidated or bonded to the extant road material. At the location indicated (on the southbound lane), the potholes have now become a rippled, uneven surface that - given its location on a bend - can throw a vehicle dangerously toward the centre of the carriageway. Vehicles are also throwing up lumps of tarmac toward oncoming traffic. Please also note, there are no facilities for pedestrians on this stretch of road that is popular with walkers heading from Llangybi village to Castle Drive.

Pothole now 50mm deep and 300mm long, 31st December
This pothole on the southbound lane was first reported in October 2023. It is growing in area and depth. Cyclists are having to swerve at the last minute to avoid the hazard putting them at risk. That this pothole is at a junction and road narrowing - where flooding occurs northbound to further narrow the carriageway - is especially concerning.

Entire stretch of road either side of Castle Drive full of holes, ruts and damage, 7th December
This stretch of road has been very dangerous for months on end. Road surface is very damaged, badly filled by the council in places, full of holes and ruts that cause the car to track or lose traction. Problem compounded earlier this week with deep flooding causing further deterioration. Police were called. Very dangerous for the many drivers, cyclists and motorcyclists who use this road, which is already notorious for RTIs.

Multiple potholes at junction and beyond, 7th June
Road surface very uneven with multiple potholes at the corner/junction apex travelling from Tredunnock to Llangybi. Another dangerous situation for both two-wheeled and four-wheeled travellers as travellers seek to avoid the holes and ruts.

50mm+ ruts, 2nd June
The road continues to delaminate. Nearly new vehicles (5 series BMW) are seeing their suspension getting a real workout as they leave Llangybi village at 30MPH. This will result in excessive wear of suspension components that should not be the case. The surface for approximately 500 metres needs replacing where successive top-dressing treatments are failing. The uneven road is uncomfortable to travel, especially if your disability relates to a spinal problem, and dangerous for all road users (not to mention expensive when considering the car repairs that will inevitably be necessary).

Deep pothole, 26th April
A deep pothole has again opened up on the apex of this bend. It is on the driving line and causes individuals to veer to the right in avoidance - creating the potential of collision on this very badly surfaced bend. The road surface is holed and delaminating to the extent that vehicle suspensions are having difficulties coping safely with the irregularities - not to mention the potential for damage to tyres, road wheels and suspension systems.

Road delaminating, 29th March
Successive "top dressing" layers are delaminating and forming potholes and ridges up to 40mm deep. The holes are a danger to cyclists and motorists, and could result in damage to vehicles/injury as vehicles are forced to manoeuvre and cross the carriageway. The road is delaminating along the entire route to Usk at various points along the way. It is particularly bad at the exit of Llangybi village but also causes a problem (especially for those with mobility issues) at points either side of Castle Drive (also reported).

Weed and soil buildup in roadside drainage channels, 3rd October
Weed treatment has not been carried out in Kennett Grange this year. Weeds are becoming more prolific and will damage the Marshall pavers that form the roadway and pavements. Some are showing signs of movement in the pavement adjacent to Nos 3 and 4 Kennett Grange. Soil buildup is becoming an issue outside the Old School House and surface water, unable to run in the drainage channel, is spilling across the roadway. This will become more of a problem as the cold weather takes grip and icing occurs.
