The following problems have been reported on Fix My Street within 2 miles of NP12 3LU:
Centre of Road Broken Up, 22nd April
Centre of road has all broken up, got to straddle both lanes to avoid. Potholes are getting marked up in this section but the separation in the centre of the road is consistently ignored. This road needs resurfacing up to the bend before the skate park.

Continued Obstructive and Dangerous Parking, 21st April
As highlighted and submitted to CCBC previously, there is no visibility for cars leaving Maes-Y-Graig Street and joining Commercial Street. This is the fifth submission to ‘FixMyStreet’ regarding this issue, and is disappointing considering the potential likelihood of harm to the public.
Cars and vans are frequently left outside shops on opposite sides of Commercial Street, leading to poor or no visibility of the road.
Motorists clearly ignore the double-yellow lines and frequently park their vehicles here, sometimes for a prolonged period. As you can see from the photograph, this is not a ‘one-off’ or an isolated issue. Given the number of previously submitted reports, parking here now seems to be seen as commonplace.
Children and parents regularly utilise these roads to access the primary school, and places them at increased risk of an avoidable harm.
This has also been highlighted as an issue near Vere Street, just a short distance down the road.
There have been numerous accidents and a death of a motorcyclist on this stretch of road over the past few years, and it seems accidents need to happen before the Council take notice. I would be grateful if CCBC could liaise with Gwent Police on how this issue can be resolved before another fatality occurs.

No active or passive pedestrian crossings for 2 primary schools, 4th March
In early 2022 the school crossing patrol for pupils attending Ysgol Gymraeg Trelyn and Pengam Primary (essentially opposite each other along Commercial Street) retired. She was not replaced and Caerphilly Council's assessment found that children did not require a safe method of crossing this road, despite endemic speeding and dangerous driving, illegal parking, frequent HGV usage etc.
An elderly lady was killed just down the road from here after being run over by a man driving dangerously just a couple of weeks ago in 2/24, indicating how urgent this issue is. Caerphilly Council still refuse to provide a safe method of crossing this road despite this tragedy, and pupils are endangered unnecessarily.
An ideal solution would be to install traffic lights to enable safe crossing along Commercial Street between the schools with an SCP assisting children as needed. This would also help with the issue of speeding. Failing that, a pedestrian crossing would still be an improvement on the current situation.
