Drainage issues caused by A1 roadworks causing issues with stones and flooding on Lamesley Road, 5th March

Tue, 05 Mar 2024 11:21:20 +0000
54.911031 -1.585794

The ongoing roadworks to widen the A1 near the Low Eighton roundabout near Birtley is causing flooding and debris issues to Lamesley road. Water is being redirected as a result of the roadworks down a track that runs parallel to Lamesley road. This has cut a deep channel down the centre of the track and as a result whenever there is rain, water gushes down this track bringing with it a significant amount of debris and stones that are washed onto Lamesley Road. This makes Lamesley Road treacherous to drive down. This has been reported previously to a number of parties and we have been advised that this a national highways issue and you are resolving it. These issues have been ongoing since October and have still not been resolved. Please can you advise on action taken to date and the timeframe for this to be resolved and confirmation that the track will also have remedial works on it to restore it to how it was (as this is a popular walking route). Thank you.

Pothole under standing water, 10th December

Sun, 10 Dec 2023 09:19:36 +0000
54.904019 -1.602602

The road has been badly tarmac (small strip across the middle) leaving the edge of the road to start to corrode. This has led to a large and very deep pothole. When driving through it yesterday my car hit the pothole which was submerged by water due to standing water on the road and flooding (due to poor drainage and heavy rainfall) causing server damage to my car. This left me and my 7 month old stranded for over 2 hours at the side of the road in a highly dangerous place with high speed vehicles coming past. During this time it’s continuous rained, causing me and my 7 month old to become saturated whilst waiting for help to fix the car. During this time I witnessed multiple people doing the same as me hitting this pothole causing their cars to make clucking noises. Following this I went to our local village Facebook page and found multiple people have had the same issues and also reported these issues. The council was said to have dealt with the issue last week by placing a light plastic orange over the hole… which isn’t a suitable measure with the weather conditions or rain and wind. My car has had to put the space saver tyre on for now until I have the funds to buy a new tyre, and is also in need to be seen by a garage to check the underneath and chassis of the car.

Team Valley traffic lights not working, 7th December

Thu, 07 Dec 2023 12:25:01 +0000
54.920698 -1.611558

All of the traffics lights on Team Valley roundabout are not working. I know they are part-time traffic lights but they are always on during peak but they have not be on at all this week. This is causing a huge build up of traffic, which was already bad due to the Junction 67 southbound slip road closure. It is also incredibly dangerous, particularly when exiting the A1 at the Junction 67 northbound slip road as it is causing the traffic to back up on to the A1, meaning one lane is blocked by stationary traffic trying to exit. I don't know if this is all being caused by the roadworks, but it should be a priority to have the traffic lights working again at least a peak times. There will be an accident at some point.
