Clacking grate, 13th March

Wed, 13 Mar 2024 22:08:19 +0000
55.006888 -1.606092

There is a loose grate cover on Station Road, right outside my home. It clacks and clanks every time a car passes down the hill. I have been in contact with Northumbria Water for three months about this. They came and “fixed“ it on Friday (8th March) complete with traffic controls, but the “repair” managed to make it even louder. It is starting to affect my health. (Weirdly, some council workers came and stuck some tarmac round it the day before the water guys came, 7th March, but that didn’t improve things either)

Congestion, 28th March

Tue, 28 Mar 2023 09:09:03 +0100
55.012262 -1.583567

Hi The congestion build up at this junction, from Chester Ave leading onto West Farm Ave has become unbearable during the morning rush hour traffic. This junction is used by all residents from this side of longbenton, as well as those using Leigh's Nursery and Balliol Primary School. During a morning to exit this junction we rely soley on the good will of the drivers waiting in queue to exit west farm avenue. Even then, we are also at the mercy of oncoming traffic, so we have to cross over a road to enter traffic and this is where it becomes problematic. We are now at the mercy of two roads and their drivers to allow us out of the junction This past week it has taken between 20-30 minutes sitting waiting patiently for both roads to allow a vehicle out. Buses and lorries use West Farm Ave and rarely allow a vehichle to exit the junction. This has been a long standing issue which has become more dangerous as people lose patience. Could there be some temporary lights fitted to be used during rush hour

Congestion, 26th March

Sun, 26 Mar 2023 07:42:08 +0100
54.984457 -1.609365

Since the closure of through traffic across Jesmond from east to west on residential roads there has been an increase in traffic going along the coast road. The left filter at the end of Osbourne road has a queue of traffic at peak times going back onto the urban motorway. Similarly there is a queue of traffic to join the coast road through Sandyford. This has considerably lengthened journey times into Jesmond as now there are queues lasting 10-15 minutes and frustrated drivers trying to find a route home swapping lanes. This traffic flow needs auditing during rush hour times and a solution needs to be found as the present situation is unsafe. This junction at the end of Osborne road was never a good design and is now frustrating and difficult to navigate.

Overgrown hedge obstructing pavement on Rokeby Terrace, 27th April

Wed, 27 Apr 2022 09:00:51 +0100
54.989903 -1.573857

At the north-east corner of the crossroads of Addycombe Terrace and Rokeby Terrace, Heaton, a high hedge located on the “end of terrace” property on Addycombe Terrace runs east-west along the north side of Rokeby Terrace. It is overgrown and the growth currently extends across more than half of the width of the pavement on Rokeby Terrace between Addycombe Terrace and the back lane, and it creates a significant obstruction for pedestrians. The presence of a lamppost on this section of pavement further reduces the space available to pedestrians. The lack of maintenance of this hedge has been a persistent problem during recent years: it appears that it is rarely trimmed and it is regularly allowed to become severely overgrown.

Haddricks Mill Road traffic congestion, 15th March

Tue, 15 Mar 2022 21:33:58 +0000
55.002316 -1.60523

At busy times, (early morning and from around 3pm onwards), traffic is queued from the roundabouts at the end of Haddricks Mill Road to the traffic lights junction at Moorfield/Jesmond Dene Road. The problem has been significantly worse since the closure of Castles Farm Road bridge, which now forces thousands of cars to detour via the roundabouts. The congestion is accompanied by increased pollution levels from stop/start traffic and vibrations from buses and HGV's. A disastrous planning decision.

Restricted road width due to non-residents parking on both sides of road., 15th March

55.001442 -1.606947

Cars parked on both sides of the road severely restrict the road width making it difficult for vehicles to drive through. This is primarily caused by non-residents using the road as a car park (often to then walk to Freeman Hospital).
