This has been reported multiple times. The A696 through Belsay is a busy road used by constant HGV traffic. The temporary repairs made a couple of months ago lasted days before the gravel was just scattered across the road. The road is in such a poor state that I'm amazed it hasn't been completely resurfaced yet, it is dangerous. Local MP has been contacted.

Road Drain blocked with mud, 3rd April
Drain has been blocked for some months. Rainwater causing roadside flooding. I am concerned if rain continues it may flow over the road into my foundations.All drain along this road (Whalton road in Belsay) need checking. Those along the main road are also in a poor state.

Nasty pothole with jagged edges, 25th March
On the carriageway, close to the white line, but very easy to drive over and it will damage car wheels. Jagged edges and deep, not a sloping hole/opening.

Significant surface deterioration, 18th March
The A696 throughout the whole of Belsay village is in an appalling state of disrepair for an A road. Some halfhearted repairs were attempted 10 days ago however the potholes remain and the noise generated from heavy lorries going over the surface is significant and disturbing to residents. The entire surface is crumbling day by day and simply putting spot repairs in place is failing to resolve the issue. Urgent work to replace the entire road surface in Belsay village is needed. May I request that a Highways Officer attend to review the state of the surface, the potholes and the excess noise generated. Many Thanks

The potholes in Belsay on the A696 are now almost impossible to avoid when travelling through the village. They are too numerous to count and need urgent attention. The grit that has been generated by the deteriorating road surface is now all over the pavement as well as starting to fill up the drains
