Congestion, 26th March
Since the closure of through traffic across Jesmond from east to west on residential roads there has been an increase in traffic going along the coast road. The left filter at the end of Osbourne road has a queue of traffic at peak times going back onto the urban motorway. Similarly there is a queue of traffic to join the coast road through Sandyford. This has considerably lengthened journey times into Jesmond as now there are queues lasting 10-15 minutes and frustrated drivers trying to find a route home swapping lanes. This traffic flow needs auditing during rush hour times and a solution needs to be found as the present situation is unsafe. This junction at the end of Osborne road was never a good design and is now frustrating and difficult to navigate.

Bensham Rd/Prince Consort Rd roundabout lanes painted incorrectly, 26th February
The attached photos show the lanes on the Bensham Road/Prince Consort Road roundabout as they exist - with an inner lane (labelled B) that never exits the roundabout - and as they should be - with the lanes spiralling out as they do on every other roundabout in the country.
Turning right on this roundabout, you can either follow the arrows and ignore the lanes - by starting in lane B and changing to lane A on the roundabout - or you can follow the lanes and ignore the arrows - by always using lane A. These equally incorrect approaches are mutually incompatible. This will certainly cause car crashes if it hasn't already.
The solution is very straightforward. Repaint the lanes.
