Series of huge potholes - made even worse by the white van YK14 WHL that has been parked there constantly for over 8 months - instead of on their own driveway. Potholes have never been this bad, or reoccured so frequently before this van was parked there. It has reduced the area of highway available for safe travel down the lane.

Stanbridge Road, Leighton Buzzard, north side of the carriageway adjacent to first of two entrances to a caravan park, just east of entrance to JGE on opposite side of the road., 29th March

Fri, 29 Mar 2024 13:41:18 +0000
51.894264 -0.62144

There must be a very deep pothole in this location, which at the time of my journey (13:51hrs 28/03/24) was hidden by large amounts of standing water along the north side of the carriageway. There was a severe jolt which caused my dashcam to activate a collision warning and record an emergency video. Other than a scuff to the inner edge of the FNS wheel which appears to have resulted from deformation of the tyre sidewall over the rim I can find no other obvious damage so far, but it would not surprise me if delamination or bulging of the tyre becomes apparent with further driving. My wife however suffered a neck injury as a result of the jolt. I had to keep in to the nearside of the road due to three approaching vehicles. Had there been no other traffic present, I would have been positioned towards the centre of the road to avoid the standing water. It seems from other reports on your website that this defect has already been reported and deemed to require rectification, but not yet fixed. I am reporting it again in case my wife's injury requires further intervention, or damage to my vehicle becomes apparent in due course, but also because it needs emphasising that the defect could result in serious injury or worse, particularly to an unwary motorcyclist or pedal cyclist, or if an impact resulted in loss of control of a vehicle.

Council ref: 402268. Multiple other refs all closed in this area with "Maintenance work is planned for this area and the issue will be resolved as part of these works." as the close notes. What works are planned for this area? When are these planned for? What has caused the ~12 months of delays in completing this work so far? If this is answered under another reference, please update this report with the reference that covers this, along with the latest update for it. Please don't close this report without answering the questions above IN FULL. Its a disgrace that these reports keep getting closed with such a non committal non-answer. If you are unable to answer these questions, please provide an official complaints route so that this can be escalated within either the council, national highways, or MGroup, depending on who is responsible for this stretch of road.
