Blocked Stone Drain Under Highway (A687), 5th January

Fri, 05 Jan 2024 07:59:30 +0000
54.146327 -2.545685

After the recent rain levels the highway drain which takes water from the side of the highway under the road to a ditch has not be able to cope with the volume of water. This drain also takes the water from a land drain which runs in my property adjacent. Water has been backing up significantly and I have tried to rod the stone pipe under the highway and there appears to be a serious blockage/collapsed drain approximately in the middle of the road. Where the stone drain meets the edge of the highway there is a stone wall which is the boundary of my property and there is no man hole or correct sump where the pipe is located. I have found a stone slab under the highway verge to locate the end of the drain. I would suggest this would require something installed to prevent anything other than water to be able to get into the drain. Additionally the build up of surface water on the road due to the collapsed drain under the highway creates which is located opposite my property, results in water being sent into the property curtilage after every passing vehicle.

Small but deep pothole, 13th July

Thu, 13 Jul 2023 12:48:12 +0100

Cycling southwards I was nearly thrown from my bike after hitting a serious pothole just before the "friends meeting house" sign (approx 50 yards farther on). While not wide, the hole is severely deep & liable to cause damage to cycles & injury to persons if left unattended.

The road drain is leaking and draining into our field making it virtually useless for anything. This has been an issue for some time and by the looks of things, sand bags have been used to try to deal with the problem.
