Cut the speed limit to 30mph, 24th March

Tue, 24 Mar 2009 15:05:16 +0000
52.2129284437231 1.2707129477762

The road outside our home is about 15-16FT wide, yet the speed limit is 50 MPH, I believe. That means a closing speed of 100MPH, if two vehicles are approaching each other at the legal limit. 15Ft is barely more than the width of two cars, let alone the width of the agricultural machinery that needs to use these small road. Also the edges are unusable because drains are repaired so badly the vehicles get damaged driving to close to the side, which makes useable road width about 13Ft. It's lunacy, these roads should be 30MPH tops. They are very winding and bendy, with lots of blind corners, especially in summer when the hedgrows are in full bloom. They were built for much slower traffic, surely that can be appreciated. Moving the village boundary about four hundred yards South East would solve the problem, not only for us, but also the ten households opposite. But reducing the speed limit on all of these types of road is essential throughout the County.
