Speed, 12th August
Hacheston is more or less a one street village. Spread out along the B1116, there is nothing to enforce the 30mph speed limit along the road that connects the A12 with Framlingham. We have now established a speedwatch team who are doing a grand job of proving the point but who have no power whatsoever. In addition to the dangerous speeds frequently observed through the village, there is only a footpath on one side of the road, and this is on the opposite side of the road to the village green and play park. We all know that children are becoming increasingly housebound due to parents anxiety about risk, and one of the significant risks we are anxious about is the danger posed by traffic. In Hacheston, this anxiety is well founded. Our children need to be able to play outside on the wonderful village green and play-park safely, and to do this they need traffic to observe the speed limit in the village, and a safe place to cross.
We need regular speed watch by the police, and a pedestrian crossing by the village hall.
