Informing the public, 23rd March
This week (week commencing 18/03/24) it was brought to my attention via neighbours that a Landlord on our road is informing his tennants that there is "community waste" and has asked them to dump large waste items here. They did not understand the term "flytipping". May be a generational or cultural thing. Please can signage be clearer e.g. "please do not dump Any large or small waste items/furniture here. It is ILLEGAL. To dispose of visit https://www.bexley.gov.uk/services/rubbish-and-recycling/bulky-or-large-item-collections/arrange-bulky-or-large-item-collection"
Or something else very clear. It seems some residents want to do the right thing and follow the rules but landlords are missinforming them and the residents don't always know better.
We've also heard landlords on our road telling residents "the council told us to out it on the Thames Path" so similar signage may be needed here. In these cases we have intervened and told them/helped them dispose of it correctly.

21 years of flytipping on Redbourne Drive/St Andrews Close corner, 9th July
As you can see from the pictures, the Redbourne Drive/St Andrews Close corner pavements is being used as a dumping ground for illegal flytipping. This has been the case for at least the past 21 years (since I've lived in this neighborhood) and despite Tom Broad (head of Environmental Services for Peabody in Thamesmead) and his cronies that have come before him taking credit for the amount of fly-tipping being "reduced" in the local papers, I am yet to see any evidence to support this, especially in regard to this particular corner.
I would like to point out the serious nature of this problem in respect of the health and safety concerns of the local Bexley residents - in particular the more vulnerable amongst us such as the children, disabled and elderly. Not only does it pose a potential for falls and injuries, but quite often the items being placed here are smelly and toxic, contributing to lowering the standard of living in this area.
As there are no CCTV cameras in this area and the corner is somewhat hidden from the main area of the street, this gives the flytippers the anonymity they crave. I therefore propose CCTV are installed in this area ASAP so the culprits can be identified and appropriate action against them taken, which will discourage other people from doing the same.
