Pothole as long as a car! Highly Dangerous location!, 6th April

Sat, 06 Apr 2024 00:29:28 +0100

Please find as attachments pictures of the damage caused to my van, after it 'dropped' into the pot hole on B4224 (Northbound) Herefordshire. The nearest postcode on the map is of South Herefordshire Golf Club HR9 7UA. Around 20.35hrs that evening I was driving home to Malvern, from Cannop in the Forest Of Dean, acompanied by my two young sons. This was my first time driving the B2442, as a route suggestion from my Sat-Nav. As I drove down this very steep hill, I felt and heard an almighty THUD, which was so hard the hazard lights, and interior light came on immediately, with a beep and a warning on my instrument cluster reading "Fuel Cutoff, see handbook" I managed to ride the hill as far as the M50 crossover, but the fuel wasn't pumping and the van came to a stall there. This was all very distressing to my two boys, so once I had calmed them down, I got out to check for phsical damage or leaking fuel. I firstly found a small dent and chip to the powdercoat on the nearside front wheel (I had these wheels refinished almost 2 years ago, and there is not so much as a mark on this rim! Also a cracked and loose arch trim on the same side. I got back into the van, and managed by turning the ignition off and on a few times, to get the engine to fire and rolling again, though it has already been intermittent. I drove on to Upton Bishop before stopping and returning to the scene, because I had realised that my Hazards were automatically on (could not switch off) and my steering was out of aligment, infact slightly wandering, and there was a loud audible knock when turning the van around. I later managed to drive home, again the fuel pump has been intermittent, and I found the protocol to reset the hazard lights but still have an Engine Management Light on. The apparent damage to my van is a flatspot/dent and chip to the powdercoat on the outside of the N/S wheel, cracked and hanging lose wheel arch trim N/S, damaged steering or suspension components and unknown fuel or engine related issues to be investigated. Also attached are pictures of said pothole which is literally a cars length, and also to show its exact location. I hereby request that repairs needed to my van be paid for by yourselves through your insurance company. I am not prepared to claim through my own insurance as it was caused by neglect to properly repair the road. It wants ripping up and starting again it is clearly that bad! I have screen shots from Google Maps which shows this very pothole has been in a similar state for atleast a year (dated April 2023) This is as aforementioned a very steep road, and a National Speed Limit, the road is in a terrible state in both directions and the condition makes it very dangerous. I am concerned there is a real risk of a collision occurring as a result of this or the other potholes throwing a vehicle out of control (I have a long wheelbase, heavy van and it unsettled me! This patch would be lethal for a cyclist or motorbike, way too probably. I look forward to hearing from you in the very near future Yours Sincerely

B4224 Bromsash, 24th March

Sun, 24 Mar 2024 22:07:00 +0000
51.915152 -2.512585

The potholes on the B4224 through Bromsash, Herefordshire and up to 0.5 miles on either end of the village are so many that it is difficult to accurately count. Possibly 50+. They aren't potholes; they are craters. It's dangerous for cyclists and to drivers because you are spending so much of your driving time looking at the ground and swerving to avoid them rather than solely focusing on the road ahead. It has got so much worse in the last month.
