Has been there ages.It has been there ages. It got Mended once back at end of January during the rains so all the filling had fallen out and it was back to worse than before by end of February! So basically a totally useless repair, I hope our council tax didn’t pay that repair company as very poor repair job.

Enormous Motorcycle death trap, 16th April
Huge 4 foot by 2 foot pothole directly in the middle of the road. Deep enough to cause serious damage cars and injury to Motorcyclists

Hit a massive pothole in the road while avoiding standing water on the north bound carriageway of the A283 just south of Northchapel, 8th April
The pothole destroyed my tire has severely dented the rim. I am establishing if the rim is repairable. I do not now how long the pot hole has been there but at least a couple of days according to friends who have passed it on the same road.

Large 3ft and growing pothole, 4th March
This pothole was filled in as recently as 31jan2024. Within 10 days the “repair” was breaking down. It is now probably bigger than it was before as they enlarge the hole to give it a square edge before filling with asphalt to repair it.
It is dangerous to road users and could easily damage vehicles.

Huge deep holes at side of road which are trapping cars, 24th October
Blind Lane, is a very narrow lane to Lurgashall village. A lorry forced its way past a car and pushed into the farm hedge destroying the bank some months back. Since then more and more vehicles have done the same. People now assume it is a real passing place in the lane which it really isn’t. It has caused VERY deep muddy ruts where cars/vans etc regularly get stuck and need pulling out. 3 cars got stuck that I know of in this weekend alone.
Leconfield Estate own the hedge and field, highways control the lane which now gets blocked to traffic on a regular basis by stuck vehicles. Please sort something out between you, either build up the bank again to stop people trying to use it it as a passing place or flatten it and tarmac it over after buying it off Leconfield and make it into a proper one. Whatever, it needs to be done before nasty damage gets done to cars or people.

X roads warning sign broken off and missing, 22nd March
This broken sign post was reported by me 9th April 2015. WSCC acknowledged my report via email and allocated the following references. WSCC Enquiry No: 105673 WSCC Job No: 6006759
It was EXPECTED to be completed within 3mths. Nothing visibly has been done and I have sent reminders to the TrafficEngineering@westsussex.gov.uk via email a couple of times since to remind them.
So lets try via FixMyStreets and see if someone wakes up and fixes it soon and not another 23mths of waiting!

Flooding - not passable on foot without wellingtons, 5th January
Extensive Flooding over the whole width of the road just north of the X-roads to a depth that stops pedestrians walking along the highway in normal walking boots/shoes. There is no separate pedestrian footway .
It flooded during the downpour on Sunday 3rd and today Tues 5th it still has not drained - although the water level is slightly lower.
Suspect that it is due to the pipe that runs north to south under the x-roads is blocked. The gully drain cover is not blocked as you can see in the photograph supplied where I have checked the gully with a broom handle - it is the pipe that drains this under the road to to south side and into the roadside ditch that is not doing its function.
In the past a "gully sucker" machine has come out and cleaned the gully under the drain cover and also jet blasted the pipe to clear it. This worked well.
Posting here as well as WestSussex webpage as their system keeps insisting my problem location is in Northchapel but it is not it is in Hillgrove Lane, Lurgashall. They will never find it if they go to Northchapel.

The triangle sign warning of the X roads (at crossways) has fallen down as the post it was on has rusted right through. Lying on the east side of the road now.

Damaged road sign, 13th January
This large road sign informing motorists of an upcoming junction has been damaged. The broken piece of the sign is in situ and requires replacing. This has been broken for several weeks.

Deep Pothole around drain cover, 3rd July
On the inside of the bend on the steep decent down to the bridge there is a manhole cover which has sunk down and also a pothole has opened up around it. The problem has been there since last winter but it looks like it now meets your 100mm intervention level. I notice some other potholes on the same road, but nearer to the A283, have recently been patched but not this one. Very dangerous for cyclists travelling towards the village green.
