Horse chestnut tree that needs inspecting, 23rd February
There is a horse chestnut tree just outside the Dower House, Chastleton, which is in need of attention. WODC have in principle given permission to remove the tree and therefore I have spoken with three different tree surgeons who agree that the tree is compromised but the quotes to fell this tree are considerable. In the past I have made every effort to identify the owner of this land but when the condition of the tree has been dangerous we have taken responsibility for the work, this cannot continue.
If this tree falls in the high winds that we now experience as a regular occurrence the outcome could be catastrophic. The rookery no longer build nests in this tree and two other trees that they left are now gone.
