Waste lorries parking for 12 hours in residential area, 29th February
After the landfill reopened this month, waste lorries have started to park up overnight. In the first image there are 3, with a further 2 out of shot. The road is obstructed too, as there is a load of wood chips deposited but without protection. In the second 2 images the day before there were 2 vehicles (blocking the pavement too). Between 2 and 5 vehicles are parking there overnight. There are no toilet facilities anywhere nearby. The site is used by dog walkers, funerals and cemetery visitors, walkers and cyclists, golf course users. The landfill has experienced 2 major fires in recent years (attributable to lithium batteries which are inadequately screened) and the woodchips also represent a further fire risk.

The kerb is collapsing because vehicles are mounting it on the corner endangering pedestrians, 13th January
As the images show, vehicles are causing the kerb to degrade. Buses and commercial vehicles, and SUVs too regularly mount the kerb, not just when the traffic is backed up on the gyratory. The pavement is not very wide here. A better design of the gyratory is required. Or remove it and create a larger public space arra.

Neighbour making bad smoke smell from burning stuff, 29th December
The owner of 2 Newtonless, Dunbar EH42 1QL is burning something that keeps making an awful smell of smoke that billows out across the whole street of Ironside Way. It has happened at least 5 times in the last few months, it’s not the smell of normal wood smoke, must be plastic or something similar to create the smell. There are children and babies on the street and it’s making it uncomfortable to go outside when the owner does this.

Unauthorised advertising?, 7th October
There are a series of bins advertising the sponsorship of a company in the Dunbar Conservation Area.
They are advertising a private LTD company, not a community owned energy company.
The complaint is that surely these adverts are incompatible with the DCA. Surely they require advertising consent? They should be removed.

Diversion sign abandoned after road works, 7th October
This sign fell during the high winds a week back and I moved it and the sand bags out of the main drag. But it won’t stay upright or against the railings so old folk are tripping on it …

Pavement completely overgrown by rose bushes., 1st September
This pavement was completely inaccessible to an electric wheelchair user trying to go from Shore Road car park to John Muir Way. This was due to being blocked by prickly rose bushes. He then had to travel along a narrow single lane road busy with large motor homes so very dangerous.I reported this issue to East Lothian Council on 24/8/23 and have had no response.

All drain gullies blocked on East Links Road, 6th August
From the top end (west) of East Links Road, along its length, the drain gullies are blocked. The ones at the top have never been cleared for years and are compacted with mud. Will require shovels and a dumpster to take away the accumulated mud waste. At present, heavy rain causes huge amounts of water to pour down the road as well as heavy pooling. Would be practical to plan this work now before the Autumn bad weather comes.

The A1 litter is an embarrassment, 11th June
The litter on the A1 is so widespread that it is embarrassing to show visitors around the locality. The problem is worst near takeaways and near litter bins in lay-bys. Years since it was cleaned up.

Waste Vehicles Obstructing Pavement, 13th April
In the last few months unmarked waste vehicles are parking overnight in this layby, next to a housing estate, a popular walking spot, the local cemetry and the main NCN76 cycle route. They frequently obstruct the pavement, as in the photo. On this occasion there were 5+1 out of shot. They are loaded with unknown waste materials, which the general public ought to know about. It is rumoured that they sleep here and use the parkland to relieve themselves. Their destination is the Valencia run landfill.

Park and Buy Dunbar, 6th February
For the last 3 years or so, the double yellows on this junction have been increasingly abused. Owners, customers, delivery drivers of nearby establishments, mainly takeaways and convenience stores take note. Even though bus stops and loading bays are available. The junction is busy. Access to the local car park, several electric car charging stations, a post office sorting office, a community hall / food bank is subordinate to parking and using it as a turning circle. No one remembers that a person died here. Question is why would anyone park illegally when other places are free within yards or a few minutes walk. The answer would fit easily on a proverbial postcard. Up to 3 or 4 may park at the same time on the junction and perhaps 20, 30 or more - every evening - more at weekends and in the summer. No one is counting. No one is counting the cost of inconvenience and takeaway on pollution or waist lines. Meanwhile the community police are directed to prioritise the occasional cyclist without lights.
