Potholes, 17th March

Mon, 17 Mar 2008 16:07:22 +0000
56.0189923223143 -2.70076026361042

LOADS OF HUGE POTHOLES are still and have been for a long time, been dotted all along the road from the bottom of Heugh Brae, North Berwick along the road to Whitekirk. Many are VERY DEEP HOLES and in dangerous positions just before bends. Very often, myself included, as well as other cars, vans and lorries, pull out of the holes' way and into the middle of the road, which makes it very dangerous for cars approaching in the opposite direction. At night when it is dark, especially if it's wet and these holes are full of water, it can be extremely dangerous as drivers are looking for the holes to try to avoid driving into, causing possible axle/wheel/tyre damage as I have found out in the past to my cost! We all as drivers pay road tax and council tax and the least we can expect is for these holes to be repaired PROPERLY instead of a lorry coming along where a bucket of grit and tar is put into the hole and not sealed properly so that once cars start driving over the shoddily repaired/jet-patched hole, the grit loosens and lies over the road. This leads me to something I have already reported TWICE before! On the Heugh Steading corner, some 'temporary' repairs were carried out to holes right on the corner several weeks ago (they 'patched' two holes but left one on the other side of the same corner) and before the day was out there was loads of loose grit lying, which is an EXTREME danger to motorcyclists on bends, because they can slide on it, expecially in the dark when it isn't as obvious. I have been out with a broom and brushed the losse grit into the side three times but why should I do this when the whole road needs repairing properly and instead of filling in the holes scattered around, there should be larger areas repaired properly like raods used to be mended. An example of when they were sorted on the main roads from the Longniddry area along to Gullane was when the Open Golf Championship was held and miles of roads were repaired properly. I hasten to add that the busy roads from North Berwick to Whitekirk were never repaired and the jet-patcher occasionally pays a quick visit but the repairs are never done satisfactorarily! If it can be done for visitors to the area, why can't it be done for the people who live here, for people who pay their taxes and drive along these roads day after day? I drove along this road yesterday and I occasionally stopped and took a few photos of holes out of my car window but in many cases I couldn't stop because of the holes were just before a corner so too dangerous to stop!
