A195(M) Washington - the evidence, 2nd March
I know this sign just say the A195 not anything about the A195(M) heres everything i found ave taken some pictures of the motorway spur running east of A1(M) J64 in Washington. An unusual piece of motorway - - Dual 2 and 3 lane with no hard shoulder - Abrupt End-of-Motorway heading east between junctions - No start of motorway sign heading west - Route confirmation markers call it the A195 despite being motorway at the time I call this road the A195(M) due to being the A195 and a motorway. What do you think? www.sabre-roads.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4723

Litter and rubbish north and southbound on A1 from Washington to DUrham, 21st January
Huge build up of litter along both carriageways and central reservation that hasn't been cleared for months. Undergrowth has died back so now is the time to sort it out! Trees and bushes thick with plastic, it is gruesome. I remind Highways of their service level agreement to the government - to keep the highways predominantly clearly of litter. It is appalling!!

From Western Hwy to ward the southbound A1 in the sleep road at the bend, it would be good to provide some arrow signs to show up the exit and sleep road and the radius of the bend. its so dark during the dark.

Litter not picked when grass cut, 19th July
Hi, I reported the shredded litter blowing all over the A1 after you cut the central res the other night. You didn't pick the litter at the same time. I've been advised you'll be picking it in September. That will mean it is over a year since you did it. I draw attention to your government agreed strategy; Litter is a serious issue. It harms the environment, upsets our customers and damages our reputation. It also puts our people at risk when they have to collect it and it diverts time and money that’s better spent on improving the road network.
Our vision is for ‘a network predominantly free from litter, without compromising safety and delivered affordably’. This strategy describes how we will achieve this by discouraging littering, improving how we collect litter, being more responsive to customer feedback and by working with our partners.
Your strategy goes on to say; We’ll continue working with local authorities to co-ordinate litter picking with routine maintenance work to minimise disruption to road users.
So why didn't you litter pick at the same time as grass cutting? You closed the highway lane, you will have paid a lot for the ability to do this and put out cones and diversions etc however you do not cooridnate litter picking and grass cutting which seems very badly planned?
Also September means you won't have litter picked it for over a year. There is for example a large wooden container that you left in the central res which is dangerous and badly damaged now you mowed it.
Your strategy is also detrimental to the environment now as huge amounts of shredded waste has entered the water course through drains.
There is no structured approach to litter picking and no strategy. This is not keeping the highway predominantly free from litter, being careful with disruption and spend and is bad for the environment. I know this area hasn't been picked for over a year because the same waste - builders hats, hi vs vests and solid waste that has dropped off vehicles has been there for over 12 months.
Please advise why this is outside of your agreed government contract and why litter picking isn't done in conjunction with grass cutting. I was advised you grass cut twice a year and litter pick four times a year. It is easy to coordinate this and save money. Thanks
