Worsening pothole on A711 (Beeswing), 17th April

Mon, 17 Apr 2023 18:34:57 +0100
55.006993 -3.727409

This pothole has been in existence for almost a year, despite numerous reports by myself to Dumfries & Galloway Council. Each report made receives what can only be described as a computer generated response, yet no action taken, of any note. A half hearted attempt was carried out in November or December 2022, yet that repair is now withering & deteriorating. The state of many roads in this area are becoming dangerous & poorly maintained. The noise from traffic, especially HGV's, passing over this particular pothole, is ridiculous & disturbing for local residents. I feel D&G Council are not even paying lip service to this issue, are effectively doing nothing to resolve the issue & are downright incompetent at best. They should be taken to task over this situation, although they will undoubtedly state that their road inspections are ongoing. An absolute joke, if it weren't so serious!

When coming from Kirkgunzeon to Beeswing just after the canine field the road feels like it is sinking and your car thuds as it goes down. Where the 2 different colour road surfaces meet that’s where it is.

2 X potholes in centre of Beeswing., 4th February

Thu, 04 Feb 2021 17:01:24 +0000
55.007435 -3.726991

For some considerable time now, the eastbound carriageway on the A711, immediately outside my property (Duncree) & that of my neighbour, has shown signs of sinking. I reported this a year or so ago & all that was done at that time was a poor patch up of what was a small pothole at one end of the problem. This has now deteriorated to such an extent that the central section of the eastbound carriageway is seriously breaking up & I fear it is only a matter of time before a literal sinkhole develops. This road is heavily used by HGV's, especially so when the A75 is closed, which is seriously exacerbating the situation. I would be extremely grateful if this could be looked into with some degree of urgency. Thank you.

Carriageway (A711) heading towards Dumfries appears to be sinking outside Braeside Duncree & other properties in this row., 11th February

Tue, 11 Feb 2020 21:27:48 +0000
55.007372 -3.726767

The carriageway here appears to be slowly sinking & the tarmac is additionally cracking in places. There is a small pothole forming, which will increase in size in time. I believe this is all due to the extreme weight of traffic being diverted through Beeswing, when diverted from the A75. There are frequently convoys of lorries coming through the village at all times of the day & night. I also believe the sinking is directly above mains water & water pipes, as there have been numerous occasions over the years when this area has been dug up & resurfaced. This requires an urgent survey in my opinion, as if allowed to get any worse, the cost to repair could be astronomical. This has been gradually getting worse over at least the last year & is now at a stage where it could deteriorate considerably rapidly.

Deep and large pothole on A711, 29th November

Wed, 29 Nov 2017 23:44:23 +0000
55.011401 -3.719797

I discovered this pothole on Saturday afternoon, when driving home from work. It is almost invisible until you are virtually on top of it. Due to the weight of traffic in both directions at that time, I was unable to avoid it, nor stop to photograph it, but have taken these pictures today. I live in Beeswing, so checked my car once home and although there is no obvious damage, I have since noticed a distinct pull to the nearside when driving, which is more discernible than prior to hitting this pothole. I feel I may have either a buckled alloy wheel or slightly bent tracking rod or similar.

Deep pothole in carriageway adjacent to verge, virtually invisible when driving towards it. Another smaller one just before it., 28th November

I discovered this pothole on Saturday afternoon, when driving home from work. I was unable to avoid it, as it is almost invisible until you are virtually on top of it. Due to the weight of traffic in both directions at that time, I was unable to avoid it, nor stop to photograph it, but will endeavour to get a picture of it tomorrow on my way to work. I live in Beeswing, so checked my wheels on arriving home. There is no discernible damage from a visible standpoint, but I will be getting my vehicle checked very soon, as the impact with this pothole was sufficiently heavy and noisy enough to have possibly caused either suspension damage or even a buckled alloy wheel. My car seems marginally awkward to drive since, in that the front wheels appear to be drifting slightly more than they usually would, even at slow speed. Should my suspicions be confirmed, I may well be making a claim through Dumfries & Galloway council. The potholes in question were certainly not there the day before I discovered them and are undoubtedly due to poor road maintenance and the heavy rain of late.

Large pothole increasing in size on a daily basis, 12th July

Wed, 12 Jul 2017 18:54:55 +0100
55.012723 -3.718179

There is a fairly large pothole in the carriageway when driving into Beeswing from Dumfries. It is situated on the left hand side of the carriageway adjacent to the verge and is almost hidden from view when driving towards it. It is most definitely a pothole that could cause wheel/tyre damage and in my opinion needs urgent attention.

Sinking tarmac in centre of carriageway adjacent to Duncree and Braeside on A711 in the centre of Beeswing., 29th March

Wed, 29 Mar 2017 19:09:13 +0100
55.007348 -3.727045

I reported this issue in 2015 and heard nothing from Dumfries & Galloway Council for over a year, until I finally involved my local MP. At that time, following an inspection presumably by the Highways Department, the council claimed that this road was 'acceptable for road traffic use.' Towards the end of 2016, Scottish Water carried out a programme of renewing the mains water pipe through Beeswing. They dug a number of large holes to access various sections of the old pipe and enable them to insert the new pipe. They subsequently filled in these holes and renewed the tarmac. All well and good, except right outside my property, as illustrated by the attached photographs,, there is a length of road that has been gradually 'dipping' since I originally reported it. This may well be 'acceptable for road traffic to use' but it is causing me increasing frustration, in that in wet weather particularly, the area fills with water, which is consequently thrown up all over my car and property. Not just water, but occasionally stones and other debris that collects there. I have to quite literally gauge when best to leave my property, for fear of being soaked by passing vehicles; something that has happened quite frequently, as this stretch of road can be very busy at times. I appreciate that living right next to a busy road is my choice and is not without problems, but this particular problem has not, and is not, being addressed since I originally reported it. Is it unreasonable to ask that this problem be rectified by contractors levelling the road to a satisfactory standard, thereby, hopefully, eliminating the problem and perhaps helping me feel that my paying road tax and council tax is justified. Thank you.

Road (A711) sinking and cracking., 3rd September

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 17:59:25 +0100
55.007459 -3.726671

On the A711, directly outside my property (Duncree) on the carriageway heading towards Dumfries, the road appears to be sinking and is gradually showing signs of the tarmac cracking. This section of road has suffered from a number of problems over the past 5+ years, primarily due to Scottish Water having to dig it up to repair burst water mains and suchlike. The actual road has never been properly repaired in my opinion and is now showing signs of deteriorating very badly and is in need of being properly resurfaced.

There is a pothole in this carriageway which is gradually increasing in size. It has been there for at least two weeks now and for those who know it is there, it is a potential accident in the making, as it is forcing traffic into the opposing carriageway in order to avoid going into it.

Series of large deep pot holes, some becoming impossible to avoid, 7th January

Mon, 07 Jan 2013 17:02:41 +0000
55.003870184694 -3.7449011658781

A series of large and deep pot holes have been gradually getting worse over the past few months The first one is located, shortly after after you turn right onto the u83s at killywhan and is located on the slight bend as you head up the hill. As you just about reach the top of the hill there is a bad one that is located at the left side of the road forcing vehicles to keep very left, then only a few yards after there is a slightly smaller one, this time located on the right, forcing drivers to keep right. As you head down the hill, just before the junction to blairshginnoch farm, there is a huge-very wide and very deep pot hole that is gradualy reaching half way across the single track road, this is forcing vehicles to drive on to the soft grass verge and could potentially cause a vehicle to lose grip, and is invisible if the road floods, which in bad weather does often. This is a bad hazzard especialy if road users are unfamiliar with the road. Further down the road, after you reach the bottom of the hill past old blairshinnoch and in the area of 2 gates and a small streem there is a section of road which appears to be sinking across the whole length of the carrage way along with some serious pot holes and road deterioration in the close proximity.
