Unacceptably muddy and wet section of path, 10th March
This is on a signed footpath between Heighington Village and Heighington Railway Station (therefore, it's the main walking route for commuters or visitors heading to Darlington or further afield by train). Come rain or shine, this section of the path is covered in deep mud and puddles, with the perimeters being borderline impassable too. This is only passable in walking boots or wellies. If this was a right of way through a field, I'd understand and sympathise. But this is a signed footpath and cycleway between a village and its railway station. It's not good enough.

Flooded pavement with muddy verge, 10th March
This issue arises during and after rainfall. This is a paved pavement that connects two villages. When it is raining or has recently rained (in the previous 2 days), this section of the pavement is flooded, meaning you have to wear footwear such as walking boots or wellies to pass through. The verge is extremely muddy and isn't really an option to avoid the flooded pavement. Yes, this is a semi-rural area. But this is a pavement, connecting two villages. School pupils use this path to walk to Heighington school, and people use this path to walk to the pubs and facilities in Heighington. It's not practical unless you don't mind arriving to school or a pub meal covered in mud. I appreciate that the rights of way in the field can and even should be muddy. But this is a pavement. It's supposed to encourage walking between the villages, not put people off. I wear suitable footwear (sturdy gore-tex trail shoes) and I still don't want to walk through this. This has been going on for a long time, and due to the constant damp nature of our climate, this section is usually like this, or worse. I've had to walk into oncoming traffic in the road sometimes to avoid this hazard.
