A66 Westbound Scotch Corner - Damaged Surface, 27th April

Sat, 27 Apr 2024 20:42:04 +0100
54.442544 -1.676648

Joining the A66 heading westbound from the A1, the condition of the road is deteriorating rapidly - there are large “chunks” just missing entirely, way beyond typical potholes that might be considered normal on an A-road. Need to swerve to avoid them, even large HGVs now try to avoid them and straddle the two lanes (I was nearly sideswiped by a HGV trying to navigate around the damaged sections).

Pot holes, 25th April

From the junction from scotch corner onto the A66 until the dual carriageway goes to single carriage way there are a RIDICULOUS amount of dangerous, large pot holes. I have noticed them for the past 2-3 months and they are getting worse and extremely dangerous as well as causing car damage

Multiple Potholes, 21st April

Sun, 21 Apr 2024 14:55:11 +0100
54.442406 -1.674434

There are STILL MULTIPLE POTHOLES!!! CLOSING A PREVIOUS INCIDENT WITHOUT REPAIRING ALL THE POTHOLES IS ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Who do you think you are and how stupid do you think we are? It’s LIKE SAYING Rwanda is a safe country when the evidence is contrary to the assertion.

Potholes Endangering Road Users’ Safety, 21st April

Sun, 21 Apr 2024 14:50:37 +0100
54.442519 -1.673284

Numerous potholes thus dangerous to tyre safety and potential tyre inner structure damage leading to punctures/blowouts. The appalling lack of maintenance that has allowed this major trunk road top surface to get to the appallingly dangerous state it is currently in is inexcusable. Totally neglected. This is not a few weeks or months worth of neglect it is longer and deeper than that.

Road surface, 12th April

Fri, 12 Apr 2024 13:58:36 +0100
54.442482 -1.676739

The road surface west bound on the A66 Scotch Corner to Mainsgill is deteriorating by the day and needs urgent patching and investment to resurface. This issue has been getting gradually worse since Dec 2023 and is causing drivers to swerve and alter their position in the carriageway thus creating an area of danger for drivers.

Significant potholes along A66 WB from Scotch Corner, 8th April

Mon, 08 Apr 2024 12:50:38 +0100
54.442502 -1.675238

A66 WB. Scotch corner and Sudbury onwards. Major potholes that are unavoidable. I have previously reported this and nothing has been done. I use this road regularly and for such a busy road, something should be done. I reported this months ago. I don't remember my previous reference number but after the time it said case closed when not a thing had been done and it had been left to get worse. It won't be long until someone suffers severe damage as a result.

Potholes A66 Westbound Carriageway adjacent to layby and beyond for approx 1 mile. Mainly on red asphalt sections. Thankfully my vehicle did not suffer any damage but I feel this is a cause for concern as people are serving to avoid them. This is in lanes 1 and 2

Potholes, 8th April

Mon, 08 Apr 2024 12:08:06 +0100
54.442526 -1.675615

Both lanes of the A66 westbound carriageway are significantly deteriorating and are becoming unsuitable. I would rather take a 40 minute detour to avoid it. This is from Scotch corner for a good few miles. I'm surprised my vehicle did not suffer severe damage, let alone any. Anything besides HGVs or 4x4s are at risk. Many of these sections are unavoidable so I feel it's only a matter of time before someone is claiming damage costs. This has been an ongoing problem for months and nothing has been done to rectify it. As a major route, this is simply unacceptable.

Broken surfacing A66 westbound between Scotch Corner and Carkin Moor, 7th April

Sun, 07 Apr 2024 23:16:40 +0100
54.442471 -1.675077

A66 westbound between the exit from Scotch Corner roundabout and Carkin Moor (approximately 5km length of dual carriageway). There are many sections of heavily deteriorated (broken and scarred) surfacing over this length of the westbound carriageway, Lane 1 in particular, that require urgent attention. Its condition presents a particular hazard to motorcyclists and smaller vehicles due to the potential for these to lose control more easily especially during adverse weather conditions. The issue is likely to have developed over several weeks or months and should have been addressed much earlier through re-surfacing.

Pothole at Scotch corner heading west towards Penrith., 2nd April

Tue, 02 Apr 2024 19:31:43 +0100
54.442532 -1.672558

Pothole is situated on the A66 upon leaving the M1 heading towards Penrith close to the Holiday Inn. The impact was so severe it has torn the sidewall and left a gaping hole in the tyre. It wasn’t until returning home and thinking the tyre may require some air that the damage was found, is there any way of recouping the money I am now going to have to fork out for a new tyre

The red anti-skid surfacing has lifted off in several places just by the Sedbury lay-by going West from Scotch Corner towards Gilling West/Melsonby crossroads. The road is in a bad state with lots of potholes. As it’s a major road with a 70mph speed limit it’s in a very dangerous condition

Confusing road signage on A6108 northbound where it meets the Scott Corner roundabout (A1M and A66 junction), 29th January

Mon, 29 Jan 2024 16:54:17 +0000
54.43992 -1.670608

On A6108 splits into 3 lanes and is signed and painted on the road as: A66 left lane - fine A1(M) and A6055 - middle lane A1(M) - right land These lanes need clarification. The middle lane should be signed A1(M) North The right lane should be signed A1(M) South. There are constant near misses here as traffic turning right to the services and/or A1(M) south get in the middle lane and try to turn right across the traffic in the right lane heading for the A1(M) north. Everyone thinks they’re right as they are all heading for the A1(M) . Please correct this or pass on to North Yorkshire Council or whoever is responsible for this dreadful signage.

Potholes and missing road surface and missing cats eyes, 27th January

Sat, 27 Jan 2024 18:45:07 +0000
54.443421 -1.680737

The condition and road safety of the A66 west bound from Sedbury Layby to Sedbury Lodge is appalling! Faded road markings, and missing cats eyes but most seriously the huge potholes and large areas where the road surface is missing. Plus churned up verges between the layby and the entrance to the Sedbury estate where wagons frequently park when the layby is full. All these issues have been around for many months.
