Drainage issue, 25th January
I unfortunately spun out of control on the M53 last November due to this part of the motorway. It had been raining heavily, I was travelling around 60mph when all of a sudden my car skidded and spun 360 leaving me in the right hand lane facing the central reservation. Thankfully I was extremely lucky. There was about 2/3 other cars that I witnessed this happen to between 5-10 minutes after it happened to myself. Since then, I personally know others and have also seen numerous cars that have had the same experience, as I drive on the motorway daily for work. Recently due to the bad conditions of weather we have had, I have driven past a car over turned on it’s side at the exact same area. And only last week, did a young man unfortunately lose his life. I am utterly terrified driving on the motorway on my way home, I avoid it at all costs when the weather is bad. It is in between junction 5 and junction 4 travelling towards Liverpool. With the recent flooding and heavy rain we have had, there has been sand bags placed on the hard shoulder in the exact area. This surely means there is an issue? With cars travelling over 60mph every minute I personally feel something needs to be done. I feel there is a bad drainage issue on this part of the motorway and it shouldn’t be taking lives. I’ve never been anxious of driving, but ever since that happened to me, I am a nervous wreck. Please, all I am asking is for this to be looked at, it’s so sad seeing this happen to so many other people and nothing happening. I really look forward to a response as this is something I am incredibly passionate about and I want people to be safe.
