Warning to Articulated Lorries -ignore Sat Nav- needed, 10th June
There needs to be a warning sign at the road junction with calthwaite road at top of Petteril Hill to advise motorists of the deep ford at bottom. This is unsuitable for vehicles as it is very deep and full of rocks, even tractors have trouble going through it. If an articulated HGV comes down using Sat Nav, there is no way it can reverse back up because of the steepness of the hill at the ford end, plus if he stops at the current ford sign he may not be able to turn around as the available side road is tight. He would also then be committed to negotiating a tight route back via narrow roads. The access to the ford on the Petteril Bank road has a sign at top of the road. It seems stupid not to have one at the top of the calthwaite road junction to save unnecessary problems for motorists who think the ford is just a little drive through one and have no idea of its extreme depth and difficult gradients.
