Damaged 'safety' surface, 5th March

Tue, 05 Mar 2024 16:35:31 +0000
54.004771 -2.215923

Heading East out of Hellifield towards Gargrave are several safety surfaces which have been in place for many years. The ones by the minor road junction (especially the second one) are truly dreadful & in a bad state of repair. Whilst cycling, my bike wheel hit several ruts, nearly causing me to fall off into the road.

Cats eyes 65 between Long Preston and Hellifield., 5th December

Tue, 05 Dec 2023 16:22:43 +0000
54.009917 -2.239491

The cats eyes on the A65 between Hellifield and Long Preston do not work, if anything they are extremely faint. I frequently travel this section of road everyday, and with us now being in winter I have noticed it causing a lot of difficulty with driving at night. It is especially worse in bad weather too. With other road users lights only seeming to be getting brighter, this is an issue that needs attention immediately before it causes an accident.

Unsuitable TMP, 16th June

Thu, 16 Jun 2022 08:58:47 +0100
54.017314 -2.251576

Contractors repairing a fallen wall have installed automatic two way traffic lights as the (towards Skipton) lane is out of action due to their works. However, the cars governed by the lights Settle bound cannot see oncoming traffic. Often, only two cars Settle bound get through. This is leading to light jumping and gridlock in the centre. The reason traffic is not flowing is that the Station turn off road (on the left if going through to Settle) is single file and traffic is queuing to get out. This creates a blockage in the Settle bound queue. The lights are unsuitable given the proximity of the station. Manned lights with communication between the people manning them is needed. The man on the Settle side will be able to see hold ups and manage traffic accordingly. Traffic is queuing miles at peak periods, especially heading from Settle to Skipton. This is an accident waiting to happen. Whoever considered this plan needs to reconsider it quickly please before CDC risks being held liable for any ensuing accident. 30/45 mins wait due to this (at least) at peak times is unacceptable for drivers and pedestrians alike and the Station has been rendered almost unusable without lots of stress getting to and from it. People are stressed enough without this making things worse for everyone. Thanks for considering this. You're the experts. Please go and look at 4 pm tonight and see what you think. I did ask someone to speak to the contractors, but I doubt they'll want to hear it as manned lights cost more. I trust you to do your job. Thanks ps I tried the Highways Agency first (or whatever it's now called- it redirected me- but it sent me to you. If it's not you, please forward this onto whoever has responsibility and liability. Thanks).

Narrowness of road, and the speed, 31st March

Tue, 31 Mar 2015 14:08:18 +0100
54.018203 -2.252634

This is a small village with a massive amount of traffic, but speed is a big problem. try and cross the road on a bank holiday, you take your life in your hands, plus there are a lot of older people. after complaining about the speed to james malcolm, area manager for north yorkshire, he sent me a letter, saying there had only been 3 accidents in the last 3 years, and maintained that the average speed was 30.6 mph. he does not live in this village, but he certainly lives on another planet if he thinks the average speed is 30.6. the the place pointed to on the map will not allow 2 articulated vehicles to pass one another, that is because the road is too narrow.
