Fence badly damaged for several hundred metres along southbound Edenfield bypass/A56 Dual Carriageway between Hardsough Lane and Church LaneeH, 19th February
Dear National Highways Much of the perimeter highway fencing on the Edenfield Bypass/A56 Dual Carriageway to Stables at Pinfold across from Esk Avenue off Blackburn Road Edenfield is either down following recent storms or already in a serious state of disrepair. We understand this to be the responsibility of National Highways as it borders the bypass. Livestock are kept in stables and fields abutting this stretch of the bypass, and there is now serious concern that either they could escape onto the bypass, or vehicles could leave the bypass and come crashing through endangering them, creating further danger of escaping animals and endangering those using the land to tend their livestock. The crash barrier should also be repaired and strengthened to further reduce this risk. Fencing and barrier work has recently been carried out on the other side of the bypass, and we expected this was part of a programme to also address the issues on our side. This hasn't happened and the problem has got worse following recent storms. We hope this can be attended to as a matter of urgency. Many thanks.

Multiple potholes as road travels under railway viaduct at traffic lights., 26th April
These potholes have been getting worse for many months. They are now a danger to life and limb. It's a disgrace that Lancashire County Council won't accept referrals from this site. Their own reporting system is appallingly difficult to navigate.

Diversion signs remived, 18th April
The diversion signs that have been set up on Bury Road Edenfield due to the nightly closure of the A56 have been removed which means all the traffic is going down narrow Bury Road and not the previous diversion down Bolton Road North. They need replacing.

Bridge has no noise barriers, 25th January
M66 motorway noise is quite high for the street we live on. Especially in winter when the leaves fall and an easterly wind.
The bridge has no barriers at present but it would be great if some were installed? I work shifts and would massively help!
Many thanks

Temporary speed limit signs wrong, 11th September
This area of the southbound carriageway was changed to a 50mph zone many years ago, and temporary 50mph signage was put in place. A black plastic bag was placed over a national speed limit repeater sign, and a full size temporary national speed limit sign put up just before the southbound lay-by.
The black bag on the national speed limit repeater sign, came off a couple of years ago, so some people are increasing their speed early, whilst most ignore the 50mph limit altogether.
Is it not time that there was some permanent 50mph signage erected, and the temporary ones removed to avoid confusion?

Trees established on branch, 18th August
The single track bridge, crossing the M66 at Chatterton Hey, Edenfield is covered with well established bushes. The roots of which are well established in the infrastructure of the bridge. Unless these are attended to soon the bridge infrastructure will be damaged and cause a costly repair and inconvenience to travellers on the M66 both north and south. It looks like this problem has been there for a while and needs immediate attention.

Dead dog lying in the central reservation, 3rd May
This morning 3 May I spotted a medium size dead dog in the central reservation of the M66 just south of the Edenfield junction of the M66. Looks like someone's pet had strayed onto the road and got hit by a vehicle. I can't be sure of the exact location but it was well before the Bury junction.

Damaged fencing, 25th March
The fencing between the A56 and Hardsough lane is badly damaged and has been like this for several years since a car came off the dual carriage way. This stretch of Hardsough lane is a bridleway so the absence of fencing is potentially dangerous

Fencing along the side of the road badly damaged, 16th March
This fencing has been damaged for more than 10 years, initially by at least two cars coming off the road and then by neglect and decay. All of the stretch along Hardsough lane is a Bridleway. The rest of the stretch to Church lane is a public footpath. These public rights of way are well used by the local community and there is now nothing to separate them from the road. The fencing needs to be replaced and given the history of cars crashing on to the paths, a crash barrier at the top is also needed
