Unregulated Burning of Refuse, 18th July

Tue, 18 Jul 2023 18:41:07 +0100
53.769963 -2.22952

The unregulated burning of refuse has been going on at this site for years. The regular and continual burning of who-knows-what not only causes air polution, but also most likely causing contamination of the ground and water courses in the vicinity. At times, the smoke generated from this site is so thick as to cause road safety issues for motorists using New Road. Photos taken from almost 2 miles away in Mereclough.

Been there above 3 weeks now - reported to police because it's in a dangerous position and to DVLA for no valid tax in place, no interest from either. If it isn't gone within the next week I'm going to start stripping bits off it and selling them on eBay.

Inappropriate Community Service on children's playground, 23rd March

Tue, 23 Mar 2021 12:44:34 +0000
53.777697 -2.218904

We visited Towneley playground today with our children, to inappropriately find 'community payback' workers litter picking on the children's playground but also playing on the children's equipment (zip line). It is inappropriate to have people convicted of crimes (regardless of the offence) to be carrying out community service on a children's playground. It is reasonable for community service to be carried out in other areas of Towneley, such as car parks etc - away from the playground, and the playground upkeep be left to paid staff or volunteers (not community service). Whilst it is not unreasonable for them to have a bit of 'down time' and enjoy the facilities (if age/size appropriate), it is not reasonable for them to be playing on children's equipment with children around whilst in the process of carrying out community service unsupervised. There was a supervisor in the surrounding vicinity, however he was a considerably distance away, out of site, away from the playground area near the toilets, staring off the bridge into the river, not supervising anyone....

A pile of rubbish tipped near the 9 hole golf shop off Deerpark Road., 22nd February

Mon, 22 Feb 2021 13:22:21 +0000
53.779905 -2.214156

Flytipping off Deerpark Road near golf shop. Also is only a matter of time before the travelling fraternity realise they can get on the car park near the golf shop because park employees are driving over the grass verge instead of opening the gate that is there to stop people using the car park out of hours.

Pennine Bridleway - danger to users. Immediate action required., 4th September

Fri, 04 Sep 2020 02:27:35 +0100
53.75174 -2.208564

The track in this section has been reinforced by the addition of several loads of hardcore. The problem is that this "hardcore" is comprised of a lethal mixture that includes shards of glass and pottery and strips of metsl, all of which are easily capable of ripping the hooves of horses, the pads of dogs accompanying walkers, and shredding the tyres of mountain bikes, all of which are legitimate users of this public highway and right of way. Immediate action is needed to avoid serious injury occurring to animals or humans.

Cars parking partly on pavements, 29th June

Mon, 29 Jun 2020 12:47:15 +0100
53.776155 -2.22875

Difficult to walk on pavements around here due to cars parked partly on pavements. I thought this was illegal? I walk 2 dogs and often have to walk on the road as I can’t get past. I’m sure it must be same for people with children and prams and elderly also. The worst streets near to me seem to be Smalley street and sometimes Clarence street. And when Church opens probably Oxford rd too.

Cans and Lids From Recycling Collection Strewn Along Road, 14th June

Thu, 14 Jun 2018 20:15:53 +0100
53.769334 -2.194869

Large number of cans, lids, tins and other recycling items strewn along the gutter and footway. This is entirely down to recycling operatives not ensuring that waste put out for collection is properly collected - they just leave it and it ends up looking appalling. Perhaps we ought to get Kingdom to follow them round and issue them with a £75 fine every time they drop stuff??

Incessant Noise from External PA, 21st May

Mon, 21 May 2018 07:36:51 +0100
53.770818 -2.193088

Music playing constantly from external PA at Nino's Italian restaurant, particularly at weekends. Admittedly it isn't massively loud but it's incessant from noon to about 10:30pm. Attempts have been made to engage with the management of this establishment about it, but this usually meets with glib excuses and complete inaction.
