There is a problem with the wall by templecranny graveyard in church street Portaferry. If you are looking at the retaining wall of the graveyard from outside 50 church street you will see that there is a sloping area up the side of the wall. At the top of this slope the top of the wall has come away. This sloped area poses a risk to the contless teenagers who use the slope and the wall to easily access the graveyard. Where they participate in antisocial behaviour. Drinking, doing drugs, vandalism and offensive language. Indeed I believe it was the persistent use of this slope by the teenagers that caused the damage to the wall. I have this afternoon just witness a teenager loose his footing a fall off this wall. Which has prompted this complaint. Although I have little sympathy for these nuisance juveniles I wouldn't want to see one seriously hurt or dead. I urge the council to fix this wall. Furthermore it is a great shame that the sloping area mentioned earlier allows easy access to this lovely old graveyard that has recently had thousands spent on it preservation. It has now become a hangout for troubled and troublesome teens. I know the police have been made aware and have asked that locals keep reporting issues but fear of reprisals stop locala from doing this. Some of the boys are well known locally and are known to have a nasty nature. There is a simple solution, the coucil could fench off this sloped area blocking off this area and blocking access to the hazard it is and also stopping any futher distruction to this beautiful graveyard.
