FIXMYSTREET IN BT12 7QN
The following problems have been reported on Fix My Street within 2 miles of BT12 7QN:
Alleyway riddled with rubbish, weeds and rodents, 25th March
To Whom it may concern,
I moved into a house in January of 2024. The alleyway at the back of my garden is filled with the previous owner’s rubbish along with (presumably) other neighbours belongings and general waste. The alleyway is gated by (I believe) the Belfast city council and it’s over growing with bushes and trees. Looking at the size of and amount of growth, this has been going on for at least 1-2 years.
I have been renovating this house since August and I have just been able to move in. I was going to contact environmental health for the back as suggested by my landlord. It has become urgent as rodents are starting to show up around and inside my house, leaving droppings, nipping through my dog food and causing understandable distress.
I have tried to keep them out to the best of my ability with traps inside as well as outside, expanding foam with steel wool in every gap I could find. However, once every other week one seems to get their paws on a gap that’s yet to be identified by myself.
The rodents are clearly coming from the alleyway at the rear of my house. I can hardly open my gate as I will be met with overflowing rubbish and grime. My neighbors don’t seem to care as much as I do hence my message to you.
I am unsure if the council owns this alleyway as there is no clear answer. The land is either council owned, ‘unadopted land’ or privately owned. However, I have been unable to identify its owner if it is the latter.
The alleyway is causing immense distress and an obvious hazard to public health and safety. The alleyway starts at the side of Ainsworth Parade and runs partially between Vara Drive and Ainsworth Pass where it eventually stops for midway to Ainsworth Pass.
I hope this post will get me somewhere positive so this can be resolved before the summer is here as the smell and rodent issue will be much greater then.
Thanks.

Saving parking spaces, 23rd June
People in the street are placing fobbed objects on the road to save a parking space. When you go to move the objects (bins and cones) the neighbours become very aggressive over this. After doing some research I believe it is against the highway code.
