The region is typically dry and sunny in the summer, and cold, wet and cloudy in the winter.  Temperatures range from 31.3° C; (31.3° F) in the winter, to 24.1° C (75.4° F) during the summer months.  However, much like other large urban regions, city centres such as Birmingham have a considerable urban heat island effect.  Cities are often significantly warmer than their surrounding countryside areas due to human activities.    Because the area has a comparatively high elevation, the region can see significant quantities of snow during the winter.
