The area is served by several rail stations, including Malton and Norton railway stations, as well as local bus services. Those travelling by train are able to access the rest of the UK from York, which is located just a few miles away.

The YO17 postcode also encompasses Kirkham Pass, which is home to some of Yorkshire's most spectacular views, and is a popular destination for walkers. The area also provides many long-distance footpaths, and is an ideal place for cycling.

In terms of education, the area is covered by numerous state primary and secondary schools, as well as the Malton and Norton Academy and 6th Form College. Throughout the summer months there are markets in Malton and Norton, and a range of seasonal events in the area, such as the Northern Lights music festival and the Malton Food Lovers Festival.
