The famous River Tweed runs through the area, providing opportunities for canoeing, fishing and other outdoor activities. There is also the rolling Cheviot Hills to explore, and the surrounding countryside is ideal for cycling, with plenty of off-road routes to explore.

Coldstream hosts a fun traditional town fair in June every year, while Kelso is a popular destination for shoppers, with a large antiques centre and a weekly market. Other popular attractions in the area include Floors Castle and the famous Tweedmouth Salmon Ladders.

In terms of education, the postcode is served by Kelso High School, a mixed comprehensive school serving the communities in the surrounding area. There are also nearby primary schools in Coldstream, Edrom, Bemersyde and Hutton. The area is also home to one of Scotland's oldest educational establishments, Kelso College, which opened in 1798.
